Vatan (1923 Newspaper)
''Vatan'' ("Fatherland") was a former Turkish newspaper founded by Ahmet Emin Yalman and his friends. There were two district periods in the history of ''Vatan''. First term (1923–1925) Ahmet Emin Yalman and Ahmet Şükrü Esmer founded the newspaper in Istanbul soon after Yalman returned from Malta exile (a mass exile to Malta by the British high commissioner following the First World War) in 1923. The newspaper supported Mustafa Kemal in his struggle to convert the monarchy to republic. But soon after the republic was proclaimed the newspaper began to oppose Mustafa Kemal and supported the main opposition Progressive Republican Party. After Sheikh Said rebellion the newspaper was closed down by the Independence Tribunals in 1925. The 1960 Turkish coup d'état (), also known as the 27 May Revolution ( or ''27 Mayıs Devrimi''), was the first coup d'état in the Republic of Turkey. It took place on 27 May 1960. The coup was staged by a group of 38 young Turkish military officers, acting outside the military chain of command. The officers were ''de facto'' led by Cemal Madanoğlu until the actual coup date. The Nation Party () was a conservative and nationalistic political party developed as a third option within the then bipartisan system in Turkey. It lasted from 1948 until 1953, when it was outlawed. The Nation Party was founded on July 19, 1948 by former prime minister and chief of staff Fevzi Çakmak, Osman Bölükbaşı, Enis Akaygen, Yusuf Hikmet Bayur, Mustafa Kentli, Osman Nuri Köni, Kenan Öner and Sadık Aldoğan.
