Vassal
A vassal or liege subject is a person regarded as having a mutual obligation to a lord or monarch, in the context of the feudal system in medieval Europe. While the subordinate party is called a vassal, the dominant party is called a suzerain. The rights and obligations of a vassal are called vassalage, while the rights and obligations of a suzerain are called suzerainty. The obligations of a vassal often included military support by knights in exchange for certain privileges, usually including land held as a tenant or fief. The term is also applied to similar arrangements in other feudal societies. In contrast, fealty (''fidelitas'') was sworn, unconditional loyalty to a monarch. European vassalage In fully developed vassalage, the lord and the vassal would take part in a commendation ceremony composed of two parts, the Homage (feudal), homage and the fealty, including the use of Christian sacraments to show its sacred importance. Vassal State
A vassal state is any state that has a mutual obligation to a superior state or empire, in a status similar to that of a vassal in the feudal system in medieval Europe. Vassal states were common among the empires of the Near East, dating back to the era of the Egyptian, Hittite, and Mitanni conflict, as well as in ancient China. The relationships between vassal rulers and empires were dependent on the policies and agreements of each empire. While the payment of tribute and military service was common amongst vassal states, the degree of independence and benefits given to vassal states varied. Today, more common terms are puppet state, protectorate, client state, associated state, or satellite state. Vassal Engine
The Vassal Engine is a game engine for building and playing online adaptations of board games, tabletop games and card games. It allows users to play in real time over a live Internet connection, and also by email ( PbeM). It runs on all platforms, and is free, open-source software. For example, there is a Star Wars Miniatures module, where players can play with up to three others in a digital replica of the table-top game. It is written in Java and the source code is available from GitHub under the LGPL open source license. History Vassal began as an application for playing '' Advanced Squad Leader''. This program was named VASL, an acronym for "Virtual Advanced Squad Leader." In 2022, this was expanded into a generic board game engine now called Vassal, with VASL being changed into just one out of many modules for Vassal. Vassal Gadoengin
Vassal Abago Bagobagan Gadoengin (1 May 1943 – 15 December 2004) was a political figure from the Pacific nation of Nauru. Background Vassal attended school in the United States. He attended Skagit Valley College, Mt. Vernon, Wa., in the late 1960s. He continued his education in Portland, Oregon in the early 1970s. Before entering a political career, which he did not do until he was into his mid-50s, Gadoengin had been working as a teacher. Political roles Gadoengin was elected to parliament in 1997, winning the seat of Ruby Dediya and was re-elected in 2000. He served as Minister of Finance in the cabinet of Bernard Dowiyogo in March 2001. In 2003 he lost his seat to newcomer Marcus Stephen, but regained it after the 2004 snap elections.
