Vasco Da Gama Assembly Constituency
Vasco Da Gama Assembly constituency is one of the 40 (Legislative Assembly) constituencies of Goa state in South India. This constituency came into existence in 1989. It is also the most populated constituency of Goa. Overview Vasco Da Gama (constituency number 25) is one of the 20 Vidhan Sabha constituencies located in South Goa district. This constituency covers the Mormugao (MCL) - Ward Nos. 9 to 17 of Mormugao Saza in Mormugao Taluka. Vasco Da Gama is part of South Goa (Lok Sabha constituency) along with eight other Vidhan Sabha segments covers the entire South Goa district. 2012 Goa Legislative Assembly Election
The Goa legislative assembly election was held on 3 March 2012, to select the 40 members of the Sixth Goa Legislative Assembly, as the term of 5th Goa Legislative Assembly ended in March 2012. The result was announced on 6 March. The Bharatiya Janata Party- Maharashtrawadi Gomantak alliance defeated the incumbent Indian National Congress government in Goa led by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat with 24 seats in the 40-seat assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 21 seats, while the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party won 3 seats. The MLA with the biggest margin of victory was the incumbent MLA Frances D'Souza of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Vasco da Gama (), often shortened to Vasco, is a city in the state of Goa on the west coast of India. It is named after the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama. It is sometimes also referred to as Sambhaji Nagar after Sambhaji. It is the headquarters of the Mormugão taluka (subdistrict). The city lies on the western tip of the Mormugao peninsula, at the mouth of the Zuari River, about from Panaji, Goa's capital, from Margao, the district headquarters and about from Dabolim Airport. Vasco da Gama ( , ; – 24 December 1524), was a Portuguese explorer and nobleman who was the Portuguese discovery of the sea route to India, first European to reach India by sea.
