Van Eeden (Antwerp Premetro Station)
Frederik van Eeden (also known by the shorthand Van Eeden) is an underground station in the Antwerp premetro network located in the Linkeroever suburb on the left bank of the river Scheldt. The station was opened on 21 September 1990, the same time as the Brabotunnel, linking the station with Groenplaats station and allowing trams in the premetro network to cross the river Scheldt. The station is located directly underneath the F. Van Eedenplein, named after the writer of the same name. Layout Van Eeden station is built completely in brick and has one above ground entrance, giving access to the Van Eeden bus station. In comparison to the other stations in the network, Van Eeden also lies relatively deep. At the -1 level of the station can be found a spacious entrance hall. The -2 level encompasses both 65m long platforms, although they are not exactly built at the same height. De Lijn
Vlaamse Vervoersmaatschappij De Lijn (, ), more commonly known as De Lijn, is a state-owned enterprise run by the Flemish government in Belgium to provide public transport with about 2240 buses and 399 trams. De Lijn was founded in 1991 after the public transport companies of Antwerp and Ghent merged with the Flemish part of the NMVB (Nationale Maatschappij van Buurtspoorwegen, or the "National Company of Local Railways"). Socialist politician Steve Stevaert of Hasselt implemented a policy allowing registered residents in Flanders aged 65+ to ride anywhere in Flanders free. This has since been changed to allowing inhabitants aged 65+ to purchase cheap annual passes which are valid throughout de Lijn. Antwerp Pre-metro
The Antwerp Premetro is a network consisting of lines 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 15 of the Antwerp Tram system. It is a metre gauge system which runs underground in the city centre and further out on surface lines, which are mostly separated from motor vehicle traffic. The network is operated by De Lijn. History The network began construction on 5 January 1970 and was originally intended to become a fully underground network similar to the Brussels Metro or German Stadtbahnen (light railways), with a length of and comprising 22 stations. However, due to financial difficulties, the conversion to metro wss scrapped and only 19 stations were built, 7 of those still unused. Groenplaats premetro station is an Antwerp Premetro, Antwerp premetro station. Located underneath the ''Groenplaats'', it is served by lines Tram route 3 (Antwerp), 3, Tram route 5 (Antwerp), 5, Tram route 9 (Antwerp), 9 and Tram route 15 (Antwerp), 15. Groenplaats premetro station was opened on 25 March 1975 and is one of the oldest premetro stations in Antwerp. It is recognizable by the green decoration on the platform toward Linkeroever in the brick decoration toward Meir. On the platforms one can see ''The Rainforest'', an artwork of Menno, a green tile wall in waves. Originally was this station a terminus. Frederik Van Eeden
Frederik Willem van Eeden (3 April 1860, Haarlem – 16 June 1932, Bussum) was a late 19th-century and early 20th-century Dutch writer and psychiatrist. He was a leading member of the Tachtigers and the Significs Group, and had top billing among the editors of ''De Nieuwe Gids'' (''The New Guide'') during its celebrated first few years of publication, starting in 1885. Van Eeden adopted vegetarianism in 1890 for health reasons, later promoting it as an ethical stance in works like ''Het Vegetariaat'' (1896), but gradually distanced himself from it in the early 20th century as his philosophical views shifted. Opera is a station in the Antwerp Pre-metro, Antwerp premetro network, lying under the Leien near the Teniersplaats in the city centre. The station was opened on 25 March 1975 along with the initial opening of the Antwerp premetro network. Tram Route 3 (Antwerp)
The Antwerp premetro tram route 3 is a tram route connecting Merksem with Melsele in the city of Antwerp. The route is operated by the Flemish transport company De Lijn and historically also by its Antwerp predecessor, MIVA (''Maatschappij Intercommunaal Vervoer Antwerpen''). History Tram 3 is one of the oldest tram lines in Antwerp. The original electric tram route 3 was opened on October 9, 1902 on the Groenplaats - Antwerp South station (''Zuidstatie'') trajectory.
