"Vampires" is a song by American rock music, rock band Godsmack. It appeared as the ninth track on the band's second studio album, ''Awake (Godsmack album), Awake'', in 2000. "Vampires" is a spoken word song with some dialogue from a television show named ''Mysterious Forces Beyond''. The song received a Grammy Award, Grammy nomination for "Best Rock Instrumental" in 2001. In 2002, lead singer Sully Erna reflected on the song's Grammy nomination: :"I don't even know why we were nominated, because we were in a category with Joe Satriani and these other guys for best instrumental performance. And the instrumental that we had on our record was an accident, so that was pretty bizarre to be nominated for that." The song is written by Sully Erna and Robbie Merrill. Godsmack is an American Rock music, rock band founded in 1995 by singer Sully Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill. The band has released nine studio albums, one Extended play, EP, two Compilation albums, compilations, three Music video, video albums, and thirty-four Single (music), singles. Erna and Merrill recruited local friend and guitarist Lee Richards and drummer Tommy Stewart to complete the band's lineup. In 1996, Tony Rombola replaced Richards, as the band's guitarist. Tommy Stewart is an American drummer, currently for the rock band Lo-Pro. He is best known for his work with the band Godsmack. He has also toured and recorded with a number of other bands including Detroit based metal band Halloween, glam rock band Lillian Axe, and alternative rock bands Fuel and Everclear. Tony Rombola (born November 24, 1964) is an American musician who had been the lead guitarist for the Boston-based rock band Godsmack from the mid-1990s until April 2025. He has been cited as "an extraodinaire" in the guitar world by ''Guitar World'' magazine, and is cited to be the only guitarist to keep an "original soloing style" during the nu metal period, earning him the respect of the guitar industry. Awake (Godsmack Album)
''Awake'' is the second studio album by American rock band Godsmack, released on October 31, 2000. It features the song "Goin' Down", which first appeared on the band's first studio recording, '' All Wound Up''. It is the final Godsmack album to fully include drummer Tommy Stewart, who would be replaced by former drummer Shannon Larkin afterwards. During the 2000s, the songs " Sick of Life" and "Awake" were used for the United States Navy's "Accelerate Your Life" recruiting advertisements. Recording The band opted to convert a warehouse in Haverhill, Massachusetts into a makeshift studio, rather than use a more traditional studio setting. Robbie Merrill
Robbie Merrill (born June 13, 1963) is an American bassist, best known as a founding member of the rock bands Godsmack and Another Animal. He was featured in the '' Behind the Player'' interactive music video. Biography Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Merrill started playing bass at age fourteen, having traded in his train set for the instrument. He was inspired to pick up the bass by watching his father, a guitarist, and his uncle, a bassist.
