VCU Center For Rehabilitation Science And Engineering
The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Center for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering (CERSE) is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, University-approved Center of Excellence furthering the science and serving the needs of persons with disabilities. CERSE is administrated and coordinated by the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, funded through the VCU Office of Research, the School of Medicine, the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), and the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS). CERSE serves as the mechanism for coordination, consolidation, and support of evidence based disability research endeavors from multiple schools and departments at VCU and a number of affiliate organizations. Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a public research university in Richmond, Virginia. The VCU Medical Center is Virginia Commonwealth University's medical campus located in downtown Richmond, Virginia, in the Court End neighborhood. VCU Medical Center used to be known as the Medical College of Virginia (MCV), which merged with the Richmond Professional Institute in 1968 to create Virginia Commonwealth University. In the 1990s, the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals Authority was created to oversee MCV Hospitals. In 2004, the name of this authority was changed to the VCU Health System, and the MCV Hospitals and surrounding campus were named the VCU Medical Center. Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center
Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center, also known as Richmond VA Medical Center or McGuire VA Hospital, is located in Richmond, Virginia. History The facility is named in honor of Hunter Holmes McGuire, M.D. (1835–1900), a famous Virginian notable for being the young personal physician to Confederate Major General Stonewall Jackson during the American Civil War (1861–1865). The Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center was established on the land of Broadrock that was once a horse racing track built soon after the Civil War in Chesterfield County, Virginia. The land was purchased by Thomas Marcellous Cheatham in 1892 who built a home for himself and his new bride. The facility was established after World War II along State Route 10 and Richmond's Belt Boulevard, an early highway bypass. Egyptian Building
The Egyptian Building is a historic college building in Richmond, Virginia, completed in 1845. It was the first permanent home of the Medical Department of Hampden-Sydney College (later renamed the Medical College of Virginia, MCV) and now is a part of Virginia Commonwealth University. It is considered by architectural scholars to be one of the finest surviving Egyptian Revival-style buildings in the nation. Elementary and secondary schools Richmond City Public Schools, the city's public school system, comprises 5 high schools, 9 middle schools, 28 elementary schools, and 9 special-purpose/preschools. In 2011, Mayor Dwight C. Jones announced the replacement of Broad Rock Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary, and Huguenot High schools in the South Richmond district, along with the replacement of Martin Luther King Jr. Middle in the East End district. The elementary school replacements have broken ground, while Huguenot remains to be replaced. The elementary schools are ranked highly among urban area school districts, while the middle and high schools are a bit rougher.
