Urua Anwa
Urua Anwa is a centrally trading place located in the Oruk Anam local gov't area, the south-eastern region of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The Nigerian Civil War saw its greatest battles fought in and around the town due to its proximity to two other important Cities: Aba, which is about 50;km distance, and Opobo, about 60 km away. It was the then black scorpion Col Adekunle of the Nigerian Army that fought and conquered the town from the Biafran troops. Urua Anwa till date is a very busy commercial centre in Akwa Ibom State. Oruk Anam
Oruk Anam is a Local Government Area located in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria. The indigenous population is largely made up of Annang people, one of the minority tribes in Southeast Nigeria. It may be ranked as the largest LGA in Akwa-Ibom due to its land popularity. Its headquarters are located in the town of Ikot Ibritam. It is one of the eight Annang-speaking LGAs. It consists of two major political units, namely, the Oruk zone, and the Anam zone. Oruk zone used to be a Local Government Area with headquarters at Urua anwa. Oruk zone was known as Southern Annang County Council of the former Abak Division. Anam zone used to be Anam Local Government Area with headquarters at Ikot Akpan Essien. Aba, Nigeria
Aba is a city in southeastern Nigeria. It lies along the west bank of the Aba River and is at the intersection of roads leading to settlements such as Port Harcourt, Owerri, Umuahia, Ikot Ekpene, and Ikot-Abasi. Opobo
Opobo is a community in Rivers state, South South region of Nigeria that was founded in 1870 . The people of Opobo are a mixture of the Ndoki tribe, Ndoki clan of the Igbo people and the Ibani clan of the Ijaw ethnic group. Their native languages are the Igbo language and the Ibani language, with Igbo language being the lingua franca. A greater part of the city state is still referred to as Opobo in Rivers State. Ikot Afanga
Ikot Afanga is a rural town in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. This town featured prominently in the history of the "man-leopard murders" of Southern Annang. A series of murder victims were found in the 1940s, with injuries looking as if they had been caused by an attacking leopard, causing rumours about wereleopards in the area. Ikot Okoro
Ikot Okoro is a rural settlement of Akwa Ibom State and was one of the larger population concentrations in the now defunct South Eastern Nigeria. Now smaller, it is about southwest of the regional center of Abak. The people of Ikot Okoro have been clamoring for the creation of a local Government area (LGA) from the present day Oruk Anam LGA. Oruk Anam LGA incidentally happens to be one of the biggest LGA in Nigeria and as such grassroots development have not been felt in most part of the LGA especially in Ikot Okoro. Ukanafun
Ukanafun is a Local Government Area located in the South South of Nigeria in Akwa Ibom State. Ukanafun was carved out from Abak and Opobo divisions of Cross River State. The Nigerian Civil war depopulated the area and slowed economic activities of the people. The Ukanafun area has yet to recover from the shock and widespread casualties of the civil war. This used to be one of the great commercial centres of the ethnic Anaang.
