UpStart Award (Australian Music)
The UpStart Award is an annual Australian award for singer-songwriters based in Victoria, Australia. The award is funded by a music loving family in Melbourne, and the winners are decided by a panel of local music experts including Angie McMahon. The Upstart Award was founded in 2017 with the intention of supporting and furthering Victorian based singer songwriters careers. Angie McMahon
Angie McMahon is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician from Melbourne, Victoria. She released her debut studio album ''Salt (Angie McMahon album), Salt'' in 2019. Early life McMahon grew up in Melbourne, Australia and began piano lessons at four years of age. McMahon was inspired to be an artist after hearing Missy Higgins' ''The Sound of White'', saying "That was a really big turning point in my life. I felt like [after] listening to that record and learning to play the songs, which I did a lot, I had a clear understanding of what I wanted to do with myself." Career 2013–2021: ''Salt'' McMahon performed in a nine-piece soul band called The Fabric before beginning her solo career. Gena Rose Bruce is an Australian singer-songwriter based in Melbourne. Career In 2013, Rose competed in the Telstra Road to Discovery competition at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and won the performer category. In 2016, she released the EP ''Mad Love'' and joined Ella Hooper on the Calamine Sisters tour in support of their respective new releases. In 2018, she released the singles "The Way You Make Love" and "Coming Down", and in 2019 she released the single "Angel Face" and her corresponding debut album ''Can't Make You Love Me''. Jade Imagine is an Australian indie pop band formed in Melbourne in 2016. The group is led by singer-songwriter Jade McInally, who previously performed with acts such as Teeth & Tongue and Tantrums.. Ryan Downey
Ryan Downey is a singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. Early life and education Ryan Downey grew up in rural Victoria, Australia. At age of 10 he was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis. In 2016, Downey explains "I was a young boy with an old man's body. There were days when I couldn't walk and during the worst of it my hair turned grey for a while. Being a forced bystander through those early years really bound me to my love of art, music and cinema." Maple Glider
Tori Zietsch known professionally as Maple Glider, is an Australian pop singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. Maple Glider released her debut album in June 2021. Early life In 2020, Zietsch said "I was raised from birth in quite a restrictive religious household" in Lismore, New South Wales. She moved to Melbourne to be "ensconced in the music community". Career 2017: Seavera Zietsch partnered up with childhood friend, producer Daniel Pinkerton and formed Seavera, pairing acoustic guitars with dramatic electronics. Winter McQuinn is an Australian musician, songwriter, and environmentalist. His work fuses folk, rock and psych-pop, intertwining vintage tones with contemporary lyrical content. Shindig!
