Germany was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song " Taken by a Stranger", written by Gus Seyffert, Nicole Morier, and Monica Birkenes, and performed by Lena. The German participating broadcaster on behalf of ARD, (NDR), organised the national final in order to select their entry for the contest, after having previously selected the performer internally. In addition, NDR was also the host broadcaster and staged the event at the Düsseldorf Arena in Düsseldorf, after winning the with the song "Satellite" also performed by Lena. ARD and NDR announced on 30 June 2010 that they had internally selected Lena to represent Germany at the 2011 contest after her win in 2010. The song selection entitled consisted of two semi-finals and a final held in January and February 2011. ARD (broadcaster)
ARD is a joint organisation of Germany's regional Public broadcasting, public-service broadcasters. It was founded in 1950 in West Germany to represent the common interests of the new, decentralised, post-war broadcasting services—in particular the introduction of a joint television network. ARD has a budget of €6.9 billion, 22,612 employees and is the largest public broadcaster network in the world. The budget comes primarily from a mandatory licence fee which every household, company and public institution, regardless of television ownership, is required by law to pay. For an ordinary household the fee is €18.36 per month, as of 2023. Households living on Welfare in Germany, welfare are exempt from the fee. Sabine Heinrich (born 27 December 1976 in Unna, North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany) is a German radio and television presenter. Career Heinrich worked at the radio station 1LIVE in Cologne from 2001 until June 2016. At 1LIVE she presented the morning show ''1LIVE mit Frau Heinrich'' (''1LIVE with Mrs Heinrich'') which ran from 10 am to 2 pm. Joy Maureen Denalane (born 11 June 1973) is a German singer-songwriter, known for her mixture of soul, R&B, and African folk music with lyrics in German and English. Early life Denalane was born in Berlin-Schöneberg to a South African father and a German mother, but grew up in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg.
