The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) (Swahili: ''Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam'') is a public university located in Ubungo District, Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania. It was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London. The university became an affiliate of the University of East Africa (UEA) in 1963, shortly after Tanzania gained its independence from the United Kingdom. In 1970, UEA split into three independent universities: Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Nairobi in Kenya, and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania abbrivated as UDSM. Tanganyika African National Union
The Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) was the principal political party in the struggle for sovereignty in the East African state of Tanganyika (now Tanzania). The party was formed from the Tanganyika African Association by Julius Nyerere in July 1954 when he was teaching at St. Francis' College (which is now known as Pugu High School). From 1964 the party was called the Tanzania African National Union. Akina Mama Wa Afrika
Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) ( Swahili for "African women") was established in 1985 in the United Kingdom as a small community organisation for African women. It is now an international and Pan-African feminist non-governmental organisation headquartered in Kampala, Uganda. Service AMwA is described as a "training centre" and "advocacy engine" for the women's movement in Africa. It focuses on enhancing women's ability to participate in leadership through education programs, resource and research, providing platforms for advocacy and movements to influence politics and legislation. Eunice Musiime
Eunice Musiime is a Ugandan lawyer, feminist and development specialist. She is the current Executive Director of Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA). She is also the chairperson of the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-U). On 1 January 2005, she wrote a framework report on Organic Agriculture in Uganda with other two authors, Boaz Keizire and Moses Muwanga. Biography Musiime holds a bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and a Master's in Business Administration majoring in public policy analysis from the University of Birmingham.
