It is a New Zealand top-tier competition during the winter season, and sits at step two overall under the summer New Zealand National League, National League. Coastal Spirit FC is an association football club in Christchurch, New Zealand and are a part of Mainland Football's federation. Their Premier Men's team currently competes in the Southern League. Their Premier Women's team competes in the Women's South Island League and were the 2013 National Knockout Cup winners. History Merge Coastal Spirit FC was established through the merger of New Brighton AFC and Rangers AFC in 2007, which was one of the oldest clubs in Christchurch having been founded in 1913. 2023 New Zealand National League
The 2023 New Zealand Men's National League was the third season of the National League since its restructuring in 2021. 32 clubs compete in the competition, with four qualifying from the Northern League, three qualifying from the Central League and two qualifying from the Southern League for the National Championship phase. Each team can field a maximum of four foreign players as well as one additional foreign player who has Oceania Football Confederation nationality. Over the course of the season, each team must also ensure players aged 20 or under account for 10% of available playing minutes. The 2022 New Zealand Men's National League is the second scheduled season of the National League since its restructuring in 2021; the 2021 National League was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in northern regions. 32 clubs compete in the competition, with four qualifying from the Northern League, three qualifying from the Central League and two qualifying from the Southern League for the National Championship phase. Each team can field a maximum of four foreign players as well as one additional foreign player who has Oceania Football Confederation nationality. Each team must also have at least two players aged 20 or under in the starting eleven. This season the Wellington Phoenix Reserves replaced Lower Hutt City and was allowed to play in the Central League though they still have an automatic entry into the Championship phase. Selwyn United
Selwyn United Football Club is a football club based in Rolleston in the Selwyn region of New Zealand. Formed in 2013 following the merger of Ellesmere FC and Rolleston FC, they currently compete in the Southern League, one of three qualifying leagues for the New Zealand National League. The club also competes in the Chatham Cup, New Zealand's premier knockout tournaments for men. Nelson Suburbs FC is a football club in Nelson, New Zealand. They compete in the Mainland Premier League. They have won the Mainland Premier League three times. The Southern Premier League (known as the ODT Southern Men's Premier League for sponsorship reasons) is a New Zealand association football league competition administered by Southern Football involving clubs from the lower half of the South Island of New Zealand. The New Zealand National League is the name given to the current New Zealand top association football, football competition. Originally set up as the New Zealand National Soccer League there has been many versions of the competition as well as many different names. The most common format saw club teams play each other, at least two times, on a home and away basis. At the completion of those games, the best-performing team was declared as the New Zealand champion. The latest version has the clubs play in their regional leagues with the top teams qualifying for the Championship phase to then play each other for the champion.
