University Of Benin Teaching Hospital
University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) is a premier and multi-specialty healthcare service provider in West Africa. The hospital is located in Ugbowo, Benin City and was established on May 12, 1973 following the enactment of an edict (number 12) of the Nigeria National Health Act. As the sixth of the 1st generation Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria, its establishment was to complement her sister institution, University of Benin, and to provide secondary and tertiary care to the then Mid-western Region (now Edo and Delta State) and its environs. It provides facilities for the training of a high- and middle-level workforce for the health industry. Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire (born 4 November 1945) is a Nigerian medical doctor and politician. He was appointed Minister of Health in President Muhammadu Buhari administration in November 2019. Irene Ighodaro (16 May 1916 – 29 November 1995) was a Sierra Leone Creole physician and social reformer who was the first Sierra Leonean woman to qualify as a medical doctor. She was president of the Young Women's Christian Association of Nigeria. She was also the first President of the Medical Association of Nigerian Women. Life Ighodaro was born Irene Elizabeth Beatrice Wellesley-Cole in Freetown, Sierra Leone, one of seven children of engineer Wilfred Wellesley-Cole. Professor Oritsejolomi Horatio Thomas (1917–1979), was a Nigerian medical pioneer specialising in facial reconstructive and plastic surgery. In this latter discipline he trained as an assistant to the wartime legend, Sir Archibald McIndoe, Archibald MacIndoe. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia (17 September 1932 – 9 March 2017) was a Nigerian army officer and politician.
