It is on the campus of Institute of Education and Research, Dhaka University, Nilkhet Road, Dhaka and is under the institute's management. It is a part of Institute of Education and Research. History University Laboratory School and College is a special type of educational institution operated by the Institute of Education and Research (IER) under the financial support of the University of Dhaka. The school began its journey in March 1964 under the leadership of Mrs. Gunning, an American teacher. In April 1965, it was upgraded from KG to the fifth grade, transforming into a primary school. Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan (born 1 January 1966) is a retired three star general of the Bangladesh Army who served as chief of general staff. Lieutenant general () is a senior rank in the Bangladesh Army. It is the second-highest active rank of the Bangladesh Army and was created as a direct equivalent of the British military rank of lieutenant general. It is also considered a 3 star rank. Ashfaque Munier (September 24, 1959August 13, 2011; known as Mishuk Munier) was a Bangladeshi media specialist and broadcast journalist. He was known for his photography direction and for being the cofounder of the global news channel The Real News Network. He was one of three sons of Munier Chowdhury. Mishuk served as the chief executive officer and chief editor of satellite TV channel ATN News. He died in a road accident, along with Tareque Masud, on August 13, 2011.
