Universities In Bangladesh
Universities in Bangladesh represent about 150 academic bodies of the conventional higher education institution (HEI) in Bangladesh. Segmented by management and financial structure, these include 55 public universities, 103 private universities, 3 international universities, 31 specialized colleges, and 2 special universities. There are specialized universities in both categories offering courses principally in technological studies, medical studies, business studies and Islamic studies. There are two private universities dedicated solely to female students. The number of universities is growing mostly in and around the capital city of Dhaka. Bangladesh National University
National University (NU; ) is a public collegiate university of Bangladesh that was established in 1992 by an Act of Parliament as an affiliating university of the country to impart graduate and post-graduate level education to students through its affiliated colleges, schools and professional institutions throughout the country. The number of colleges under the NU is 2,257. Among these, 555 are government colleges. A total of 881 colleges offer honors courses. M Alimullah Miyan
M Alimullah Miyan (; 15 February 1942 – 10 May 2017) is the pioneer of non-government universities in Bangladesh. He founded the first private university in Bangladesh, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT). He was director and professor at the University of Dhaka’s IBA, and founder chairman of the Centre for Population Management and Research (CPMR). Early life Miyan was born on 15 February 1942 in Kailine, Chandina Upazila, Comilla District, East Bengal, British India. Miyan completed his Honours and Masters degrees from University of Dhaka in 1962 and 1963 respectively. After, he received his Master of Business Administration at Indiana University School of Business in 1968 and his Doctorate at the Manchester Business School in 1976. IUBAT
International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) was established in 1991 by M Alimullah Miyan and was subsequently recognized under the Private University Act (PUA) of 1992 (now replaced by PUA 2010). It is the first private university established in Bangladesh. The initial planning began in 1989. Degree programs started in 1992 with agreement with Assumption University of Bangkok, Thailand.
