Universitario Rugby Club De Tucumán
Universitario Rugby Club is an Argentine sports institution for women's field hockey and men's rugby based in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán. As a rugby team, it is a member of the Unión de Rugby de Tucumán, which in turn belongs to the Unión Argentina de Rugby and plays in the First Division of the Northwest Regional Tournament. The field hockey section of the club is affiliated to the Asociación Tucumana Amateur de Hockey (ATAH). History The club was founded by students and professors from the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technology of the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán on September 21, 1943. Conceived as a "universal" multidisciplinary club, it had its first headquarters in Ayacucho and Combate de Las Piedras Street in Barrio Sur, San Miguel de Tucumán. The Torneo del Interior A is an annual rugby union competition in Argentina. The competition involves clubs from all provincial unions outside Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires. Teams qualify from different tournaments along the provinces of Argentina, such as Torneo del Litoral, Litoral, Torneo del Noroeste, Noroeste, Torneo de Córdoba (rugby), Córdoba, Torneo del Nordeste, Nordeste, Torneo Pampeano, Pampeano, Torneo del Oeste, Oeste and Torneo Patagónico, Patagónico. Battle Of Tucumán
The Battle of Tucumán was fought on 24 and 25 September 1812 near the Argentine city of San Miguel de Tucumán, during the Argentine War of Independence. The Army of the North, commanded by General Manuel Belgrano, defeated the royalist troops commanded by General Pío de Tristán, who had a two-to-one advantage in numbers, halting the royalist advance on Argentina's northwest. Together with the Battle of Salta, on 20 February 1813, the victory at Tucumán allowed the Argentine troops to reaffirm the borders under their control. Prelude The Upper Peru region (present-day Bolivia), was again under royalist control after the rebel defeat at Huaqui, where the inexperienced commander Juan José Castelli was easily defeated by the royalist army.
