The 2006 United States House of Representatives elections in Connecticut were held on November 7, 2006, to elect the five members of the U.S. House, one from each of the state's congressional districts, to represent Connecticut in the 110th Congress. The elections coincided with a state gubernatorial election and a U.S. Senate election, as well as congressional elections in other states. Four Democrats and one Republican were elected in these elections; two of the Democratic victories resulted from the defeats of incumbent Republicans. The Representatives elected in these elections served in Congress from January 3, 2007, until January 3, 2009. As of , this is the last election in which a Republican won a congressional district in Connecticut. Rosa DeLauro
Rosa Luisa DeLauro ( ; born March 2, 1943) is an American politician who is in her 18th term as the U.S. representative for , having served since 1991. She is a member of the Democratic Party. The district is based in New Haven and includes most of its suburbs. DeLauro is the dean of Connecticut's congressional delegation since 2013 upon the retirement of Senator Joe Lieberman. Fusion Voting
Electoral fusion in the United States is an arrangement where two or more United States political parties on a ballot list the same candidate, allowing that candidate to receive votes on multiple party lines in the same election. 2006 United States House Of Representatives Elections
The 2006 United States House of Representatives elections were held on November 7, 2006, to elect members to the United States House of Representatives. It took place in the middle of President George W. Bush's second term in office. All 435 seats of the House were up for election. Those elected served in the 110th United States Congress from January 3, 2007, until January 3, 2009. The incumbent majority party, the Republicans, had won majorities in the House consecutively since 1994, and were defeated by the Democrats who won a majority in the chamber, ending 12 years of Republican control in the House. The Republicans had won a 232-seat majority in 2004, but by the time of the 2006 election, they held 229 seats, while the Democrats held 201, plus 1 Independent (Bernie Sanders) who caucused with the Democrats. Wesley Kanne Clark (born Wesley J. Kanne, 23 December 1944) is a retired United States Army officer. He graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1966 at United States Military Academy, West Point and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford, where he obtained a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Robert Ruhl Simmons (born February 11, 1943) is an American politician and retired U.S. Army colonel who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2007, representing Connecticut's 2nd congressional district as a Republican. Simmons unsuccessfully ran as a candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senator from Connecticut in 2010. Simmons was formerly Chairman of the Yankee Institute for Public Policy.
