Unite Union
Unite Union (Unite) is a trade union in New Zealand. It represents a number of workers across various industries, and was the sponsor of the campaign directed towards improving working conditions for fast food workers in the country, in addition to representing other hospitality and retail workers. Unite is affiliated with the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions. History In mid 2003 a small group of trade unionists and activists attempted to "organise the unorganised". It began to focus on unionising workers predominantly from fast food, cinema and security. Unite Union (Australia)
Unite is a former trade union established in Melbourne, Australia, which now describes itself as a 'young workers' campaign group'. Unite was never registered as a union under the ''Fair Work Act 2009''. Its inspiration was the Unite Union in New Zealand. When it was a union, Unite's goal was said to be to organise young workers in fast food and retail in Victoria. Its establishment in 2006 angered the union with registered coverage of these workers, the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA). Matt McCarten
Matthew McCarten (born 11 February 1959) is a New Zealand political organiser and trade unionist, of Ngāpuhi descent. McCarten was active with several trade unions including the Hotel and Hospital Workers' Union, the Unite Union, and the One Union; the latter two of which he co-founded. Early life and family Matt McCarten is the youngest child of John and Rehina McCarten. He had two older brothers named Mike and John and an older sister named Margret. McCarten was placed into care following his birth and lived at the Catholic Home of Saint Vincent's in Herne Bay, Auckland until the age of two. Name And Shame
To name and shame is to "publicly say that a person, group or business has done something wrong". It is a form of public shaming used to rally popular opinion against and, in turn, discourage certain kinds of behavior or enterprises. The practice occurs both at the domestic and the international levels, where naming-and-shaming is often used to denounce unfair business practices or human rights violations. There is some evidence that naming and shaming can reduce atrocities and make the named and shamed governments improve their human rights records. Some scholars, however, question whether naming-and-shaming has the intended effects. The New Zealand Council of Trade Unions (NZCTU or CTU; ) is a national trade union centre in New Zealand. The NZCTU represents 360,000 workers, and is the largest democratic organisation in New Zealand. The New Zealand Employment Relations Act 2000 (often known by its acronym, ERA) is a statute of the Parliament of New Zealand. It was substantially amended by the Employment Relations (Validation of Union Registration and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2001 and by the ERAA (No 2) 2004.
