The Union of the Right for the Republic, also occasionally translated as the Union of the Rights for the Republic (, UDR), formerly known as the Association of Friends of Éric Ciotti () and On the Right! Friends of Éric Ciotti (, ADAEC), is a right-wing to far-right political party in France. Founded in 2012 by Éric Ciotti, former president of The Republicans (LR), the party took its current name following the crisis within The Republicans due to the 2024 legislative election. Éric Ciotti
Éric Ciotti (, ; born 28 September 1965) is a French politician who has represented the 1st constituency of Alpes-Maritimes in the National Assembly since 2007 and is the president of The Republicans since 2022. Ciotti previously briefly served as First Deputy Mayor of Nice under Mayor Christian Estrosi in 2008, before he assumed the presidency of the Departmental Council of Alpes-Maritimes from 2008 to 2017. A member of The Republicans (LR), he sought the party's nomination for the 2022 presidential election at its 2021 congress; he placed first in the first round of voting but was defeated by Valérie Pécresse in the second round. François Fillon
François Charles Armand Fillon (; born 4 March 1954) is a retired French politician who served as Prime Minister of France from 2007 to 2012 under President Nicolas Sarkozy. An early legislative election was held in France on 30 June 2024, with a second round to be held on 7 July, to choose all 577 members of the 17th National Assembly of the French Fifth Republic. 2024 The Republicans Alliance Crisis
The Republican alliance crisis () was triggered by the formation of the Union of the Far-Right, an alliance between Éric Ciotti, the president of The Republicans (LR), and the National Rally (RN) ahead of the 2024 French legislative election. LR MPs and senators questioned claims the alliance was revolutionary. The senior members unanimously removed its president for unsanctioned negotiations and disrespect for party statutes, which was unprecedented in France.
