The Union of the Centre (, UdC) was a minor liberalism, liberal List of political parties in Italy, political party in Italy. The party was a successor of the Italian Liberal Party. History The party was founded on 27 May 1993 as a "Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, Giscardian ''rassemblement''" by Raffaele Costa, leader of the Italian Liberal Party (PLI). The UdC included Liberals (Alfredo Biondi, Stefano De Luca, Giacomo Paire, Valentino Martelli, etc.), members of the Italian Republican Party (Guglielmo Castagnetti, Vincenzo Garaffa, Gaetano Gorgoni, etc.), members of the Italian Democratic Socialist Party (as Maurizio Pagani) and even Christian Democracy (Italy), Christian Democrats (as Eugenio Tarabini). In February 1994 the PLI was dissolved into the Federation of Liberals (FdL), which elected Raffaello Morelli secretary and Biondi president. Raffaele Costa
Raffaele Costa (born 8 September 1936) is an Italian politician. He was the president of the Province of Cuneo from June 2004 to June 2009. He was previously a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies representing the Italian Liberal Party and later Forza Italia between 1976 and 2003, and was also a member of the European Parliament of the European People's Party until June 2004. His son, Enrico Costa, is also a politician and was Italian Minister of Regional Affairs and Autonomies in the Renzi Cabinet and the Gentiloni Cabinet. The Segni Pact (), officially called Pact of National Rebirth (''Patto di Rinascita Nazionale''), was a Christian-democratic, centrist and liberal political party in Italy. The Federation of Liberals (, FdL) was a minor liberal political party in Italy. The party was founded on 6 February 1994 as the legal successor of the Italian Liberal Party (PLI): Alfredo Biondi, incumbent president of the PLI, was elected president and Raffaello Morelli coordinator. In the 1994 general election most FdL members supported Patto Segni, while Biondi (and some of the Liberals gathered in the Union of the Centre) were elected with Forza Italia. Eugenio Tarabini (2 May 1930 – 25 August 2018) was an Italian politician. Tarabini was born in Morbegno on 2 May 1930. He married Lucia, with whom he had three children, and was a lawyer. A member of Christian Democracy, he sat on the Italian Parliament from 1968 to 1994, alternating his mandates in the Chamber of Deputies with those in the Senate. Maurizio Pagani (27 January 1936 – 7 February 2014) was an Italian engineer and politician who served as the minister of post and telecommunications during the period 1992–1994 in two successive cabinets, and as the mayor of Novara. The Italian Democratic Socialist Party (, PSDI), also known as Italian Social Democratic Party, was a social-democratic political party in Italy. The longest serving partner in government for Christian Democracy, the PSDI was an important force in Italian politics, before the 1990s decline in votes and members.
