Union University
Union University is a private Baptist university in Jackson, Tennessee, with additional campuses in Germantown and Hendersonville. The university is affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention (Southern Baptist Convention). It was established in 1875 as "Southwestern Baptist University" on the campus of the former West Tennessee College. It absorbed the Hall-Moody Junior College of Martin, Tennessee. History Predecessors "Jackson Male Academy" was founded in Jackson, Tennessee in 1823 as a preparatory school for wealthy students. The Tennessee General Assembly chartered the academy in 1825. In 1844, the academy reorganized and rechartered as "West Tennessee College". During the Civil War, the college was used as a military hospital by Confederate and Union troops. Union University is a loose federation of Union College along with a number of graduate schools, founded in 1873 and located in the Albany metropolitan area of New York State. History Union University was incorporated by an act of the New York State Legislature on April 10, 1873. Union University founded Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 1881. Since 2018, the Chancellor of Union University, who is also President of Union College, has been David R. Harris. As of 2021, the university exists "in name only" and "each member institution has its own governing board and operates its own institutions independently." Union Institute & University
Union Institute & University (UI&U) was a private online university that was headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. It also operated satellite campuses in Florida and California. In early 2023, it began to experience severe financial challenges. Federal financial aid was withheld, it did not pay employees for many months, and it was evicted from its headquarters in Cincinnati for failing to pay rent. The university resigned its accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission effective June 25, 2024. It closed permanently on June 30, 2024.
