''Under the Tonto Rim'' is a 1947 American Western (genre), Western film directed by Lew Landers and starring Tim Holt, Nan Leslie, and Richard Martin (RKO actor), Richard Martin. Written by Norman Houston and based on the 1926 novel ''Under the Tonto Rim (novel), Under the Tonto Rim'' by Zane Grey, the film is about a gang of outlaws who rob a stagecoach and kill one of the drivers. The stagecoach owner goes undercover to learn the identities and location of the gang leaders. Lew Landers
Lew Landers (born Louis Friedlander, January 2, 1901 – December 16, 1962) was an American independent film and television director. Biography Born as Louis Friedlander in New York City, Lew Landers began his movie career as an actor. In 1914, he appeared in two features: D.W. Griffith's drama ''The Escape (1914 film), The Escape'' and the comedy short ''Admission – Two Pins'', under his birth name. He became an assistant director at Universal Pictures in 1922. He began making films in the 1930s, one of his early ones being the Boris Karloff / Bela Lugosi thriller ''The Raven (1935 film), The Raven'' (1935). After directing a few more features, he changed his name to Lew Landers and directed more than 100 films in a variety of genres, including Westerns, comedies, and horror movies. Alexander Crichlow Barker Jr. (May 8, 1919 – May 11, 1973), known as Lex Barker, was an American film and television actor. He was known for playing Tarzan for RKO Pictures between 1949 and 1953 and portraying leading characters from Karl May's novels, notably as Old Shatterhand in a film series by the West German studio Rialto Film.
