Ulster
Ulster (; or ; or ''Ulster'') is one of the four traditional or historic provinces of Ireland, Irish provinces. It is made up of nine Counties of Ireland, counties: six of these constitute Northern Ireland (a part of the United Kingdom); the remaining three are in the Republic of Ireland. Saint Ultan
Ultan was an Irish monk who later became an abbot. He was the brother of Saints Fursey and Foillan. He was a member of Fursey's mission from Ireland to East Anglia in c. 633, and lived there both as a monastic probationary and later alone as an anchorite. In c. 651 he accompanied his brother Foillan to Nivelles in Merovingian Gaul where they continued their monastic life together. Ultan, brother of Saint Fursa The seventh century St. Ultan was a brother of Saint Fursey or Fursa, and of Saint Foillan. He was therefore apparently the son of the royal woman Gelges, herself a daughter of King Áed of Connacht (possibly Áed mac Echach). Ultan Of Ardbraccan
Ultan of Ardbraccan (died ) also known as Ultan the Scribe, was an Irish monk and Abbot-Bishop of Ardbraccan during the 7th century. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church, with his feast day being celebrated on 4 September. Life Tradition has said he was an uncle of Brigid of Kildare; however, this is not chronologically possible. He collected a life of her for his pupil, St. Broccán Clóen of Rostuirc, in Ossory. The Irish Annals describe St. Ultan as of the royal race of O'Connor. Ultan was a disciple and kinsman of St. Declan, who made him bishop of Ardbraccan. He succeeded St. Breccan as Abbot- Bishop of Ardbraccan around 570. Ultan founded a school, educating and feeding its poor students, and was noted for his work in collecting the writings of St. Brigid and illuminating them. One of his students was Tírechán. Ultan Cooke (Galway, County Galway) is an Irish head chef. He was formally employed at restaurant Aniar in Galway where he was awarded a Michelin star. Cooke studied philosophy and archaeology at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He started his culinary training in Galway. He later moved to London where he worked for John Torode John Douglas Torode (born 23 July 1965) is an Australian-British celebrity chef and TV presenter. He moved to the UK in the 1990s and began working at Conran Group's restaurants. After first appearing on television on ITV's ''This Morning ...'s Smiths of Smithfield, ending up as head chef. Ultan Conlon (born 1980) is an Irish singer-songwriter. He is a native of Loughrea. Conlon has performed live with John Martyn, Mary Coughlan, Lisa Hannigan, Mark Geary, Roesy, Sabrina Dinan, David Kitt, and the Four of Us. Conlon plays and teaches classical guitar. Career He and fellow Galwegian, John Conneely, formed the group UltanJohn in 2003. His 2005 single, "Really Gone", featured John Martyn. Ultan Dillane (born 9 November 1993) is an Irish rugby union player. He plays for La Rochelle in the Top 14 which is the top tier of rugby union in France. Dillane primarily plays as a lock. Early life Dillane was born in Paris, France to an Irish mother. His father is from the Ivory Coast. At the age of seven, Dillane moved to Ireland, settling in Tralee in his mother's native county of Kerry. Dillane attended St Mary's Christian Brothers School in Tralee. Early career Dillane first played rugby for his local club Tralee RFC. Lloyd Ultan (composer)
Lloyd Ultan (New York City, June 12, 1929 – October 26, 1998) was an American composer of contemporary classical music. Career Ultan received a bachelor's degree from New York University, a master's degree from Columbia University, and a doctorate from the University of Iowa. In 1971, he founded, and, from 1971 to 1974, served as Director of the Composer's Residency Program at Wolf Trap Farm Park in Vienna, Virginia. Ultan served as chairman of the Department of Music at American University in Washington, D.C. for 13 years, and spent a year as visiting professor of Composition and Theory at the Royal College of Music in London. He has also lectured at Cambridge University and been a visiting composer on numerous college and university campuses in the United States. Lloyd Ultan (historian)
Lloyd Ultan (born 1938) is a historian and author. A native of the borough of The Bronx in New York City, he was the Bronx borough historian from 1996 to 2023. He is a professor of history at Fairleigh Dickinson University's and a member of the adjunct faculty at Lehman College. Ultan received a B.A. in history from Hunter College in 1959 and an M.A. in history from Columbia University in 1960. He has written several books, including ''The Beautiful Bronx (1920-1950)'', ''The Bronx in the Innocent Years: 1890-1925'', and ''Bronx Accent''. Ultan is renowned for his walking tours.
