Uke-Hunt
Uke-Hunt is a ukulele-based cover band fronted by Spike Slawson from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Although both this and the Gimmes are cover bands, they have very different approaches. While the Gimmes generally pick non-rock songs, rock them out and speed them up to turn them into punk music, the songs picked for this band are generally upbeat songs that are then slowed down and mellowed out. History The band's origins start with Slawson learning to play ukulele when Me First and the Gimme Gimmes would perform their cover of R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" live. Slawson would then learn different songs on ukulele which led to this band. The band initially played on the San Francisco Wharf under the name Uke Hammer. Spike Slawson
Sean "Spike" Slawson (born April 9, 1970) is an American punk rock musician, a member of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Swingin' Utters, Filthy Thievin' Bastards, Re-Volts, Uke-Hunt, and Los Nuevos Bajos. Early life Having grown up in Pittsburgh, Slawson worked in the mail order department of the record label Fat Wreck Chords (which is the subject of a song by The Aquabats titled "Dear Spike"). Musical career He later was in Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (a cover band/' supergroup' consisting mainly of members of Fat Wreck bands) formed in 1995. Slawson is the lead singer for the group. From 1997 to 2012, he was the bassist for Swingin' Utters. Joe Raposo (bassist)
Joe Raposo (born 1970) is an American musician. He is the bassist for the California punk rock band Lagwagon and QA engineer lead at Zynga. He also played bass for a period of time for The Real Mckenzies and Mad Caddies. Additionally, Raposo plays bass for the San Francisco-based fusion group King City, with fellow Lagwagon member Chris Rest as well as filling in on bass for several live shows with the Dwarves. Raposo began his career in 1987 at the age of seventeen by joining California hardcore punk band Rich Kids on LSD as their new bassist and remained with RKL until their hiatus in 1996. In 1995, ''Maximumrocknroll'' called Raposo "flat out the best bass player in the state of California." He began playing shows with RKL again in 2003 (after they had re-formed a year prior) until their current hiatus after the death of lead singer Jason Sears. Fat Wreck Chords
Fat Wreck Chords (pronounced "Fat Records") is an independent record label based in San Francisco focused on punk rock. It was started by NOFX lead singer Michael Burkett (better known as Fat Mike) and his wife at the time, Erin Burkett in 1990. As of 2009, Fat Wreck Chords has released over 300 studio albums. History Fat Mike started his record label Wassail Records in 1987. He put out two NOFX records, The PMRC 7” in 1987 and Liberal Animation in 1988. In 1990, he and his wife Erin Burkett co-founded Fat Wreck Chords, and re-released NOFX's 1987 EP, The P.M.R.C Can Suck on This. The song was produced by Adrian Clark (a pseudonym for Dave Clark and Adrian Kerridge), and was originally the B-side to " Can't You See That She's Mine" in the UK. David Clark (born 15 December 1939) is an English musician, songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur. Clark was the leader, drummer and manager of the 1960s beat group the Dave Clark Five, the first British Invasion band to follow the Beatles to the United States in 1964. In 2008, Clark and his band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Biography Early life Clark was born in Tottenham, then lived in Middlesex. He left school without qualifications at the age of 15 and claims to have become a film stuntman, performing in over 40 films (although IMDB only gives him four pre-fame film credits). The Dave Clark Five, also known as the DC5, were an English rock and roll band formed in 1958 in Tottenham, London. Drummer Dave Clark was the group's leader, producer and co-songwriter. In January 1964, they had their first UK top-ten single, " Glad All Over", which knocked the Beatles' " I Want to Hold Your Hand" off the top of the UK Singles Chart. "Animal Farm" is a song by the English rock band the Kinks from their sixth studio album, ''The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society'' (1968). Written and sung by Ray Davies, the song was recorded in March1968. Musically an example of pop, the song features a noticeably larger sound than the others on ''Village Green'', accomplished through it being recorded in a larger studio space as well as heavy reverb added to its drums, percussion and tack piano. The song is one of the few Kinks recordings from the late1960s to possibly feature real strings, as arranged by David Whitaker. Sir Raymond Douglas Davies ( ; born 21 June 1944) is an English musician.
