UTSA Roadrunners Men's Basketball
The UTSA Roadrunners men's basketball team represents the University of Texas at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas, US in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA NCAA Division I, Division I as a member of the American Athletic Conference (The American) from the 2023–24 season. Originally competing as an NCAA Division I independent schools (basketball), NCAA independent in 1981–82, the Roadrunners moved to the Trans-America Athletic Conference (now known as the ASUN Conference) in 1986–87, then moved to the Southland Conference in 1991–92, then moved to the Western Athletic Conference in 2012–2013, then moved to Conference USA in 2013–2014 where they remained for the next 10 seasons. Don Eddy (basketball)
Don R. Eddy (December 16, 1935 – November 5, 2017) was an American college basketball coach, known for his tenure at Eastern Illinois University and as the first head basketball coach for the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Eddy played college basketball for Southern Miss. Following his college career, he coached at Southwest High School in Atlanta, then served as an assistant at East Tennessee State. He was hired as head coach at Eastern Illinois in 1968. Eddy coached the Panthers for twelve seasons, compiling a 208–128 record as he guided the program from NCAA Division II to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He led the Panthers to Division II Final Four in 1976 and 1978. On May 14, 1980, Eddy was announced as the first head coach for UTSA, with the school planning to a field team starting in the 1980–81 season. The Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team is part of the University of Iowa athletics department. Tim Carter (born June 13, 1956) is the former head men's basketball coach at South Carolina State University. The ''Fort Worth Star-Telegram'' is an American daily newspaper serving Fort Worth and Tarrant County, the western half of the North Texas area known as the Metroplex. Stuart John Starner (April 8, 1943 – July 17, 2024) was an American college basketball coach. He was an NCAA Division I head men's coach for eleven seasons for Montana State University and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). 1988 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1988 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. The 50th annual edition of the tournament began on March 17, 1988, and ended with the championship game on April 4 returning to Kansas City for the 10th time. A total of 63 games were played. Kansas, coached by Larry Brown, won the national title with an 83–79 victory in the final game over Big Eight Conference rival Oklahoma, coached by Billy Tubbs. Ken Burmeister
Ken Burmeister (June 3, 1947 – May 19, 2020) was an American college basketball coach. He was the head coach of the University of the Incarnate Word for 12 seasons from 2006 until 2018. Burmeister graduated from St. Mary's University, Texas, and served on the staff of Lute Olson at Iowa and Arizona from 1979 to 1986. Burmeister coached at University of Texas at San Antonio from 1986 to 1990 and led the team to its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 1988, where they lost to Illinois. He served as an assistant coach at DePaul before taking over at Loyola (IL) in 1994. He posted a 40–71 record at Loyola and oversaw the team's move to Joseph J. Gentile Arena in 1996. The Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) is a collegiate athletic conference operating mostly in the Southeastern United States.
