USC Men's Rugby
The USC Trojans Rugby Football Club is the official rugby team of the University of Southern California. The club competes in the PAC Rugby Conference, the Southern California Rugby Football Union, and the Gold Coast Conference of Intercollegiate Rugby, and Nationals annually. The Trojans' home field is Allyson Felix Field, located in the heart of USC's University Park Campus in Los Angeles, California. The team’s alumni, including notable former players Joseph Krassenstein and Sean Cooper, remain involved as assistant coaches, contributing to the rich tradition and ongoing success of the program. History Rugby is USC's oldest club sport. The team was founded in 1886. USA Rugby (formally the United States of America Rugby Football Union, Ltd.) is the national governing body for the sport of rugby union in the United States. Payton Jordan
Payton Jordan (March 19, 1917 – February 5, 2009) was the head coach of the 1968 United States Olympic track and field team, one of the most powerful track teams ever assembled, which won a record twenty-four medals, including twelve golds. He was born in Whittier, California. Jordan was exceedingly successful as a collegiate track coach for a decade at Occidental College and for 23 years at Stanford University. A star three-sport athlete in his youth, Jordan more recently became one of the most dominant track athletes of all time, as a sprinter, in senior divisions (age 50 and over). Harry Smith (American Football)
Harry Elliott "Blackjack" Smith (August 26, 1918 – July 30, 2013) was an American football player who anchored the line from the guard position on the University of Southern California's Rose Bowl teams in 1938 and 1939 seasons, and earned All-American honors each year. Early life Smith was born in Russellville, Missouri and played scholastically at Chaffey High School in Ontario, California. College career The 1938 team finished 9-2-0 and defeated Duke University. The next season, the Trojans finished 8-0-2 as national champions, including a 14-0 Rose Bowl conquest of the University of Tennessee. USC also defeated Notre Dame University in each of those seasons. Smith was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. Harry Smith also played for USC Rugby during his collegiate career.
