Unocal
Union Oil Company of California, and its holding company Unocal Corporation, together known as Unocal was a major petroleum explorer and marketer in the late 19th century, through the 20th century, and into the early 21st century. It was headquartered in El Segundo, California, United States. Unocal was involved in domestic and global energy projects. Unocal was one of the key players in the CentGas consortium, which attempted to build the Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline to run from the Caspian area, through Afghanistan, to the Indian Ocean, at a time after the Taliban siege of Kabul in 1996. On August 10, 2005, Unocal merged its entire upstream petroleum business with Chevron and became a wholly-owned subsidiary. 76 (formerly Union 76) is a chain of Filling station, gas stations located within the United States. The 76 brand is owned by Phillips 66. Unocal Corporation, Unocal, the original owner and creator of the 76 brand, merged with Chevron Corporation in 2005. History The Union Oil Company of California (later known as Unocal) introduced the ''Union 76'' brand to their existing Union Oil service stations in 1932. After expanding along the West Coast, the ''Union 76'' brand expanded to the Midwest and Southeast through the acquisition of Pure Oil in 1965. CentGas
Central Asia Gas Pipeline, Ltd. (CentGas) was a consortium formed in the 1990s to develop a project to build the Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline from Turkmenistan's natural gas fields to Pakistan. The consortium had also considered an extension of the pipeline to the New Delhi area. Regional and political instability proved too great a challenge to overcome and the project eventually was cancelled after Unocal (the largest CentGas investor) withdrew from the consortium. El Segundo ( , ; ) is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Located on Santa Monica Bay, it was incorporated on January 18, 1917, and is part of the South Bay Cities Council of Governments. Los Angeles Center Studios, is a 20-acre film production studio located in the City West neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, United States. History The main building opened in April 1958 as the Union Oil Center and served as the headquarters of Union Oil Company of California. The tower was designed by architect William Pereira. In 1996, Union Oil vacated the premises. After the construction of six sound stages and renovation of the Unocal building, the studio opened in 1999. The 20-acre complex includes six film production sound stages, ten buildings, three streets and a private park. The main gate is located at 450 South Bixel Street. Wallace Hardison
Wallace Libby Hardison (August 26, 1850 – April 10, 1909) was a co-founder of the Union Oil Company of California, later known as Unocal. He later founded the Inca Mining Company and its subsidiary, Inca Rubber Company. Hardison was born in Caribou, Aroostook County, Maine, the youngest of eleven children. He followed his brother, James Henry Hardison, to the oil fields of Western Pennsylvania. At first, they worked as field hands, but eventually befriended Milton and Lyman Stewart. Lyman Stewart
Lyman Stewart (July 22, 1840 – September 28, 1923) was a U.S. businessman and co-founder of Union Oil Company of California. Stewart was also a significant Christian philanthropist and cofounder of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (now known as Biola University). He and his brother Milton also anonymously funded publication of '' The Fundamentals'', the foundation document of Christian fundamentalism. Stewart also helped found the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles. Early life Stewart was born to William Reynolds Stewart & Jane Miller Irwin in 1840 in Cherrytree, Venango County, Pennsylvania, and worked for his father who was a tanner.
