Normandy, Missouri
Normandy is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,287 at the 2020 census. History The city of Normandy is on land once owned by Charles Lucas. Lucas obtained property from the federal government with land grants, and he purchased the land from victims of the New Madrid earthquake of 1811. He named it for the French coastal region of Normandy from which his father John Baptiste Charles Lucas came. The site of his home is now on the property of Incarnate Word Academy. Lucas was to fight two duels on Bloody Island with Thomas Hart Benton, and died in the 1817 duel. Upon Charles' death, and that of his father, Federal Land Grant Judge J.B.C. Lucas, his land was left to his sister Anne and brother James. Anne married Capt. Theodore Hunt, son of the Patriot Abraham Hunt of Trenton, New Jersey, who died in 1832. An island platform (also center platform (American English) or centre platform (British English)) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are sometimes used between the opposite-direction tracks on twin-track route stations as they are cheaper and occupy less area than other arrangements. They are also useful within larger stations, where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be accessed from opposite sides of the same platform instead of side platforms on either side of the tracks, simplifying and speeding transfers between the two tracks. The Great Rivers Greenway District is a public agency in the state of Missouri that works to develop a regional network of greenways, parks, and trails in the St. Louis metropolitan area. The agency engages citizens and community partners to plan, build, and care for the greenways. History In 1996, a nonprofit organization called St. Louis 2004 was created with the aim of bringing about a renaissance in the region by 2004.
