UIC Flames Baseball
The UIC Flames baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the University of Illinois at Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The team is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I (NCAA), Division I. The team plays its home games at Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium in Chicago, Illinois. The Flames are coached by Sean McDermott (baseball), Sean McDermott and assisted by hitting coach Jimmy “no hips” Frankos. Sean McDermott (baseball)
Sean McDermott is a baseball coach and former shortstop, who is the current head baseball coach of the UIC Flames baseball, UIC Flames. He played college baseball at Indian Hills Community College from 1990 to 1991, before transferring to Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters, Lincoln Memorial from 1992–1993. He then served as the head coach of the Viterbo V-Hawks (1996–1998). Playing career McDermott attended and played baseball at Indian Hills Community College. He transferred to Lincoln Memorial University. As a junior, he had 3 stolen bases in 5 attempts. His best season came as a senior, posting a .266 Batting average (baseball), batting average, a .404 on-base percentage, 33 runs score, 40 Base on balls, walks and 11 stolen bases. He concluded his playing career with 40 walks, at the time a program record. 2007 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2007 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was held from June 1 to 24, . Sixty-four NCAA Division I college baseball teams advanced to the post season tournament after having played through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament. The 2007 tournament culminated with 8 teams advancing to the College World Series at historic Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 15. Unseeded Oregon State repeated as national champions, winning all five of its games in the 2007 CWS. Oregon State went undefeated through the College World Series, posting a 5–0 record. The Beavers, led by head coach Pat Casey, won all three games in their four-team bracket and then, for the second straight season, defeated North Carolina in the best-of-three championship series— this time in two games. Trevor Lane
Trevor Lane (born April 26, 1994) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 10th round of the 2016 MLB draft, but never played in Major League Baseball after playing parts of six seasons in the Yankees organization. Career Lane attended Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Washington. He played for the school's baseball team as a pitcher and first baseman, and was named the Gatorade Washington Player of the Year in 2012. He enrolled at Lower Columbia College, where he played college baseball for two years, and transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) to play for the UIC Flames. Mike Dee (baseball Coach)
Mike Dee (born May 20, 1958) is an American former baseball coach and outfielder. He played college baseball at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. He served as the head baseball coach at the UIC Flames (1999–2021). Under him, UIC reached six NCAA tournaments. Before coming to UIC, he was an assistant at Minnesota. Playing career Dee was raised near Chicago before moving to Wisconsin for his senior year of high school. He played high school baseball at Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois for three years and at Aquinas High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin for one. He attended the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, where he played three seasons of baseball for the Indians. In 1979, Dee's senior season, the team reached the NAIA World Series. Curtis Granderson
Curtis Granderson Jr. (born March 16, 1981), nicknamed "the Grandyman", is an American former professional baseball outfielder. He played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers, and Miami Marlins. The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) is a List of college athletic conferences in the United States, college athletic conference affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Its 12 members are located in the Midwestern United States. In many sports, the conference champion qualifies directly for national competition. The CCAC sanctions play in eight men's and eight women's sports. 2019 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2019 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was a tournament of 64-teams to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I national champion for the 2019 season. The 73rd annual edition of the tournament began on May 31, 2019, and concluded with the 2019 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, which started on June 15 and ended on June 26. Summit League champion Omaha made their first appearance in the tournament. 2017 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2017 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on June 1, 2017, as part of the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64-team, double-elimination tournament concluded with the 2017 College World Series (CWS) in Omaha, Nebraska. The CWS started on June 17 and ended on June 27. The 64 participating NCAA Division I college baseball teams were selected out of an eligible 299 teams. Thirty-one teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conferences, and 33 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.
