U.S. Route 341
U.S. Route 341 (US 341) is a U.S. highway entirely in the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels northwest-southeast across southern Georgia (but is signed as north–south) from Brunswick at US 17/ SR 25 to Barnesville at US 41/ SR 7/ SR 18. It is a spur route of US 41 and has two intersections with it: in Perry and at its northern terminus in Barnesville. Crawford County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,130. The county seat is Knoxville. Crawford County is included in the Macon, Georgia metropolitan statistical area. History Crawford County, in west central Georgia, is Georgia's fifty-seventh county. The county was created on December 9, 1822, from Houston County, which had been formed from land given up by the Creek Indians in the 1821 Treaty of Indian Springs. The Port of Brunswick is an Atlantic seaport in Brunswick, Georgia, United States, in the southeast corner of the state. On February 12, 2025 the president of Georgia Ports Authority announced that the Colonel’s Island Terminal in Brunswick had replaced the Port of Baltimore as the busiest port for automobiles, construction and heavy farm equipment in the United States for 2024. This follows the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and that port's closure for almost three months. State Route 27 (SR 27) is a state highway that travels west-to-east through portions of Quitman, Stewart, Webster, Sumter, Dooly, Pulaski, Dodge, Telfair, Jeff Davis, Appling, Wayne, and Glynn counties in the southern part of the U.S. state of Georgia, crossing nearly the entire state from Georgetown, just east of the Alabama state line to Brunswick, just west of the Atlantic coast. Sidney Lanier Bridge
The Sidney Lanier Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that spans the Brunswick River (Georgia), Brunswick River in Brunswick, Georgia, United States. The bridge is named after Georgia-born poet Sidney Lanier and carries part of U.S. Route 17 in Georgia. It was also the name of an earlier bridge which was next to the current site. The initial plans for a bridge at the location came from Georgia Governor Melvin E. Thompson, who thought it would help the tourism industry on nearby Jekyll Island. Construction commenced under his administration and continued under the next two governors, overseen by the State Toll Bridge Authority. The original bridge was a vertical-lift bridge that opened to traffic as a toll bridge in 1956.
