The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the United States of America. It superseded the Articles of Confederation, the nation's first constitution, on March 4, 1789. Originally including seven articles, the Constitution delineates the frame of the federal government. The Constitution's first three articles embody the doctrine of the separation of powers, in which the federal government is divided into three branches: the legislative, consisting of the bicameral Congress ( Article I); the executive, consisting of the president and subordinate officers ( Article II); and the judicial, consisting of the Supreme Court and other federal courts ( Article III). Article IV, Article V, and Article VI embody concepts of federalism, describing the rights and responsibilities of state governments, the states in relationship to the federal government, and the shared process of constitutional amendment. Jacob Shallus
Jacob Shallus or Shalus (1750–April 18, 1796) was the Penmanship, engrosser or penman of the original copy of the United States Constitution. The Handwriting, handwritten document that Shallus engrossed is on display in the Charters of Freedom, Rotunda of the Charters of Freedom at the National Archives Building in Washington, D.C. Early life Shallus was the son of Germans, German immigrants. His father was an innkeeper named Valentine Schallus who immigrated from Palatinate (region), Palatine region in 1747 and his mother was Frederica Catherina. His brother Thomas Shallus was a mapmaker. He was born a year after his father Valentine immigrated to Pennsylvania and was a volunteer in the American Revolutionary War, Revolutionary War. During the Revolutionary War, Shallus Invasion of Canada (1775), fought in Canada after becoming a quartermaster of Pennsylvania's 1st Battalion on January 19, 1776.
