Tirana
Tirana ( , ; ) is the capital and List of cities and towns in Albania, largest city of Albania. It is located in the centre of the country, enclosed by mountains and hills, with Dajti rising to the east and a slight valley to the northwest overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the distance. It is among the wettest and sunniest cities in Europe, with 2,544 hours of sun per year. Tirana was founded in 1614 by Ottoman Albanian general Sulejman Bargjini, Sylejman Pasha Bargjini, centered on the Sulejman Pasha Mosque, Old Mosque and ''Sulejman Pasha Tomb, türbe''. The city was fairly unimportant until the 20th century, when the Congress of Lushnjë proclaimed it as Albania's capital after the Albanian Declaration of Independence in 1912. Tirana County (), officially the County of Tirana (), is a county in the Central Region of Albania. It is the tenth largest by area and the most populous of the twelve counties, with more than 912,000 people within an area of . The county borders on the Adriatic Sea to the west, the counties of Durrës to the northwest, Dibër to the northeast, Elbasan to the east and Fier to the southwest. Erion Veliaj
Erion Veliaj (born December 17, 1979) is an Albanian politician who has served as the 42nd mayor of Tirana since 2015. Beginning as an activist and the leader of MJAFT!, Veliaj joined the ranks of the Socialist Party of Albania in 2011, where he was appointed Secretary for Youth and Immigration. Previously, he served as a member of parliament for Gjirokastër and as Minister of Social Welfare and Youth under Prime Minister Edi Rama. In April 2015, Veliaj was appointed as the mayoral candidate of the Socialist Party in Tirana. He won the 2015 Albanian local elections and took office on July 31, 2015. He was re-elected in 2019 and 2023. Skanderbeg Square
The Skanderbeg Square () is the main plaza in the centre of Tirana, Albania. The square is named after the Albanian national hero Skanderbeg, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu. The total area is about 40,000 square metres. The Skanderbeg Monument dominates the square. The Resurrection of Christ Cathedral () is an Albanian Orthodox church situated in the center of Tirana, Albania. Kapllan Pasha Tomb
The Kapllan Pasha Tomb () is a Muslim '' Türbe'' built in 1817 in the center of Tirana, Albania. The government of Albania declared it a Cultural Monument of the first category in 1948. Its 8 columns are made of carved stone, placed on an octagonal-shaped stone base, and capped with octagonal shape capitals. The former Ottoman ruler of Tirana was interned here in the 19th century, but his remains were later repatriated to Istanbul, Turkey. The Namazgah Mosque ( Albanian: ''Xhamia e Namazgjasë''; English: ''Mosque of the Prayer Square'') or the Great Mosque of Tirana ( Albanian: ''Xhamia e Madhe e Tiranës''), is the largest mosque in the Balkans, located in Tirana, Albania. Kashar is a village and former municipality in Tirana County, central Albania. Its population as of the 2023 census was 89,395, making it the 3rd most populated municipal unit in the country.
