Task Force (film)
''Task Force'' is a 1949 American war film about the development of U.S. aircraft carriers from to . Although Robert Montgomery was originally considered for the leading role, the film stars Gary Cooper, Jane Wyatt, Walter Brennan, Wayne Morris, Julie London and Jack Holt. ''Task Force'' was the only film Gary Cooper and Jane Wyatt made together, and was the last of the eight films Cooper and Walter Brennan made together. Filmed in black-and-white with some Technicolor sequences, the picture received the complete support of the U.S. Navy, which lent naval vessels and facilities and allowed archival footage of the development of naval air power to be used. Plot As a 1917 graduate of the Naval Academy, Naval Aviator Jonathan L. "Scotty" Scott (Gary Cooper) spends 28 years, from 1921 to 1949, promoting U.S. naval aviation and the power of the aircraft carrier. Delmer Daves
Delmer Lawrence Daves (July 24, 1904 – August 17, 1977) was an American screenwriter, film director and film producer. He worked in many Film genre, genres, including film noir and war film, warfare, but he is best known for his Western (genre), Western movies, especially ''Broken Arrow (1950 film), Broken Arrow'' (1950), ''The Last Wagon (1956 film), The Last Wagon'' (1956), ''3:10 to Yuma (1957 film), 3:10 to Yuma'' (1957) and ''The Hanging Tree (film), The Hanging Tree'' (1959). He was required to work exclusively on studio-based films after heart trouble in 1959, one of which, ''A Summer Place (film), A Summer Place'', was a huge commercial success. Daves worked with some of the best known players of his time including established stars like Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Glenn Ford, James Stewart and Richard Widmark. Jack Holt (actor)
Charles John Holt, Jr. (May 31, 1888 – January 18, 1951) was an American motion picture actor who was prominent in both silent and sound movies, particularly Westerns. Early life Holt was born in 1888 in the Fordham section of The Bronx, New York, the son of an Episcopal priest at St. James Church. When in Manhattan, he attended Trinity School. He was accepted into the Virginia Military Institute in 1909, but expelled for misbehavior in his second semester there. Following Holt's father's death, the family moved to Manhattan, where Jack, his mother, and brother Marshall lived with his married sister, Frances. Holt worked at various jobs, including construction of the Pennsylvania Railroad's tunnel under the Hudson River and being a "surveyor, laborer, prospector, trapper, and stagecoach driver, among many other jobs" during an almost six-year stay in Alaska.
