The Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive, branded as Nexus, is an executive body of the North East Combined Authority and is best known for owning and operating the Tyne and Wear Metro. South Shields Interchange is Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive's transport hub in the coastal town of South Shields, South Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England. History The station, which was originally located on Mile End Road, was opened on 2 June 1879 by the North Eastern Railway (United Kingdom), North Eastern Railway; it later became a part of the ''Tyneside Electrics'' railway network. It closed in June 1981, for conversion to part of the Tyne and Wear Metro system. Park Lane is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving the port city of Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 28 April 2002, following the opening of the extension from Pelaw to South Hylton. History The station is located below Park Lane Bus Station, which opened in May 1999, as a replacement for the former Sunderland Central Bus Station.
