Tylognathus
''Tylognathus'' is an invalid genus of ray-finned fishes in the family (biology), family Cyprinidae. It was established by Heckel in 1843 without a type species. ''Varicorhinus diplostomus'', described by Heckel in 1838 and erroneously redescribed by the same author in 1844 as ''T. valenciennesii'', was later designated the type species. Today this fish is placed in the genus ''Bangana''. The members of this polyphyly, polyphyletic assemblage mainly belong to the group which is known as the subfamily Labeoninae to some authors and the tribe (biology), tribe Labeonini of subfamily Cyprininae by others. Labeoninae
Labeoninae is a doubtfully distinct subfamily of ray-finned fishes in the family Cyprinidae of order Cypriniformes. They inhabit fresh water and the largest species richness is in the region around southern China, but there are also species elsewhere in Asia, and some members of ''Garra'' and '' Labeo'' are from Africa. They are a generally very apomorphic group, perhaps the most "advanced" of the Cyprinidae. A common name for these fishes is ''labeonins'' (when considered a distinct subfamily) or ''labeoins'' (when included in subfamily Cyprininae). They include the group sometimes separated as ''Garrinae'', but these do not seem to be that distinct. In fact, the entire Labeoninae is merged into the Cyprininae by a number of authors; in any case, these two and the former " Barbinae" form a close-knit group whose internal phylogeny is far from resolved. If the subfamily is considered distinct, it is typically split in the tribes ''Labeonini'' (which are able to swim well in o ... Bangana Ariza
''Bangana ariza'', the Reba or ariza labeo, is a cyprinid fish found in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. ''Bangana ariza'' occurs in clear rivers and tanks, feeding on plankton and detritus. It breeds in flooded shallows in June–September. Its growth fairly rapid; and it can reach lengths of about 30 cm in natural waters. The males are smaller than females. It is grown in aquaculture ponds in India where breeding is induced by hypophysation, a technique of artificially encouraging fish to reproduce by removing the hypophysis or pituitary gland from a fish, preparing it and then injecting the preparation into another mature fish, of either sex, to promote final maturation and spawning. However, the fry of this species are readily available in July–September in rivers such as the Cauvery and Bhavani, especially at dawn and dusk. These are collected to stock ponds and in even seasonal waters due to their rapid growth. ''Bangana ariza'' is found in waters ... A number of species often placed in ''Bangana'' have again been moved to other genera, notably '' Altigena'', '' Gymnostomus'', '' Incisilabeo'', '' Speolabeo'' and '' Vinalabeo'', but to what extent these changes are recognized varies.
