Tuvalu Order Of Merit
The Tuvalu Order of Merit is an order of merit of Tuvalu. It was founded on 1 October 2016, on the 38th anniversary of Tuvaluan independence; with $30,000 for the award allocated in the Tuvalu 2017 National Budget. Discussion of award At Kensington Palace on 30 October 2017, Prince William received His Excellency Sir Iftikhar Ayaz (Honorary Consul-General of Tuvalu) who invested His Royal Highness and the then Duchess of Cambridge with the Tuvalu Order of Merit on behalf of the Governor-General of Tuvalu. The award was given to the Prince and Princess of Wales in recognition of their visit to Tuvalu as part of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Governor-General Of Tuvalu
The governor-general of Tuvalu is the vice-regal representative of the Tuvaluan monarch, currently King Charles III, in the country of Tuvalu. The monarch is the head of state of Tuvalu, with the governor-general performing the monarch's duties in Tuvalu. The constitutional convention is that the governor-general represents the monarch and acts on the advice of the prime minister. The office of the governor-general was created on 1 October 1978, when Tuvalu gained independence from the United Kingdom as a sovereign state and an independent constitutional monarchy. The politics of Tuvalu takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic monarchy, whereby the Monarch is the head of state, represented by the Governor-General, while the Prime Minister is the head of government. Executive power is exercised by the government. Major general (Maj Gen) is a "two-star" rank in the British Army and Royal Marines. The rank was also briefly used by the Royal Air Force for a year and a half, from its creation to August 1919.
