"Turn On the Night" is a song by the American rock band Kiss from their 1987 studio album ''Crazy Nights''. It was the album's third and final single. Background and writing The song was written by Paul Stanley and Diane Warren. As she says, she hadn't written many hits at that time, but Paul Stanley believed in her. Stanley in his turn says that it was Warren who came up with the title for the song and that she played the key role in its writing. Music video The music video was directed by Marty Callner. Kiss (commonly styled as KISS) was an American rock music, rock band formed in New York City in 1973 by Paul Stanley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals, bass guitar), Ace Frehley (lead guitar, vocals) and Peter Criss (drums, vocals). Known for their face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid-1970s with shock rock–style live performances which featured fire-breathing, blood-spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits and pyrotechnics. The band went through several lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons remaining the only consistent members. The final lineup consisted of them, Tommy Thayer (lead guitar, vocals) and Eric Singer (drums, vocals). Martin Henry Callner (August 25, 1946 – March 17, 2025) was an American director who made music videos, comedy specials, concert specials and television shows. He was the creator of HBO's '' Hard Knocks'', and was nominated for numerous Primetime Emmy Awards, Directors Guild of America Awards, CableACE Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. Background Born in Chicago on August 25, 1946, Martin Henry Callner grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, raised primarily by his mother. He attended three universities but did not earn a degree. Career Callner began his career at a Cincinnati television station in 1969, before moving to Boston's WBZ-TV, where he directed Boston Celtics broadcasts. American hard rock band Kiss has released 20 studio albums (24 counting the unified 1978 solo albums), 13 live albums, 2 extended play and 67 singles. Formed in New York City in 1973, the group initially consisted of bassist Gene Simmons, rhythm guitarist Paul Stanley, lead guitarist Ace Frehley, and drummer Peter Criss; this most recognizable and successful lineup lasted until Criss' departure in 1980. The band is known for its makeup and on-stage antics, which influenced many artists who later used similar effects in their concerts. The band's eponymous debut album, released in 1974, did not have a hit single and rose only as high as 87 on ''Billboard'', despite significant touring and promotion. ''Crazy Nights'' is the fourteenth studio album by American rock band Kiss, recorded from March to June 1987 and released on September 21, 1987, by Mercury worldwide and Vertigo in the UK. This was the second album to feature the line-up of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Bruce Kulick, and Eric Carr. The album is notable for its pop-metal sound as well as for its use of keyboards and synthesizers, a reflection of popular trends in the commercial rock genre of this time. It was re-released in 1998 as part of the Kiss Remasters series and is the last Kiss album to have been remastered. A high number of songs from ''Crazy Nights'' were performed live during its supporting tour, but during and especially following the tour, most of those songs were dropped and never performed again. Only the song " Crazy Crazy Nights" was retained in their setlist for the ''Hot in the Shade Tour'' a couple of years later; it was dropped after that tour, not returning for nearly 20 years until the ''So ...
