Operation Euphrates Shield () was an offensive by the Turkish Armed Forces and the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army, which led to the Turkish occupation of northern Syria. Operations were carried out in the region between the Euphrates river to the east and the rebel-held area around Azaz to the west. The Turkish military and Turkey-aligned Syrian rebel groups, some of which used the Free Syrian Army label, fought against the forces of the Islamic State (IS) as well as against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from 24 August 2016. The T-122 Sakarya is a Turkish Multiple rocket launcher, multiple launch rocket system developed by ROKETSAN. Overview As part of the Turkish Army#Modernization, modernization drive undertaken by the Turkish Military in the 1980s and 90s several new rocket systems were developed for the needs of the Turkish army. Prototypes of the system were revealed in 1995 with the first vehicles undertaking trials and evaluation in 1996. Production commenced in 1997. T-155 Fırtına ( Turkish for ''Storm'') is a Turkish variant of K9 Thunder 155 mm self-propelled howitzer originally developed by South Korea. Adnan Abdul Aziz Ahmed (1977 – 29 August 2017), better known as Adnan Abu Amjad (), was the commander of the Manbij Military Council, active within the Syrian Democratic Forces in the Syrian Civil War.
