Trunk Roads In Ireland
A trunk road was a road in the Republic of Ireland of the highest classification between 1926 and 1977. The lower classifaction of main road was termed a link road. Trunk and link roads were identified by numbers prefixed with the letter T or L respectively; lesser roads had no such identifiers. In 1977 the classification was changed to national primary and secondary, regional, and local roads. Typically, each segment previously classified as trunk or link respectively became national or regional, but the numbering was done on a new basis. History The UK's Ministry of Transport Act 1919 said that the British Minister of Transport "may, after consultation with the Roads Committee ... and the local authorities affected, classify roads in such manner as he thinks fit". History Annagassan was first mentioned as '' Linn Duachaill'' in AD 841 when the establishment of a Viking longphort was recorded. It is unclear whether the longphort at Annagassan continued under the Dublin Viking regime after 852 since the location is not mentioned for seventy years. The longphort is estimated to have been 1.18 kilometres from north to south. Within this area, the earthwork of Lisnarann may have acted as the citadel. The M7 motorway () is a motorway in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The motorway runs continuously from the outskirts of Naas in County Kildare to Rossbrien on the outskirts of Limerick city. The M7 forms part of the Dublin to Limerick N7 road (Ireland), N7 national primary road. The section of the motorway bypassing Naas, an 8 km stretch, was the first section of motorway to open in Ireland, in 1983. Following substantial works to extend the M7 to Limerick, by the end of 2010, the motorway replaced all of the old single-carriageway N7 route which is now designated as R445 road (Ireland), R445. In Ireland, the highest category of road is a motorway (''mótarbhealach'', plural: ''mótarbhealaí''), indicated by the prefix M followed by a one- or two-digit number (the number of the national route of which each motorway forms a part). The motorway network consists entirely of motorway-grade dual carriageways and is largely focused upon Dublin. There are also several three-lane motorways, while Ireland's busiest road, the M50, incorporates four-lane, five-lane, and six-lane stretches. The completion of the Major Inter-Urban Motorway Project in December 2010, which saw Dublin connected to the cities of Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Galway by continuous motorway, as well as a number of other projects, increased the total length of the country's motorway network to 916 km. N51 Road (Ireland)
The N51 road is a national secondary road in Ireland. West to east, it starts in Delvin, County Westmeath at a junction with the N52. It passes through Athboy, a junction with M3 motorway, Navan and Slane, where it crosses the N2 road, all in County Meath, before crossing the M1 motorway and terminating near Drogheda in County Louth at a roundabout on the R132. It is an unusual arrangement for a national secondary road to terminate at a regional road. However the R132 is the former N1 route (now by-passed by the M1 motorway) and is of a higher standard than most regional roads. Upgrade On 15 May 2009 Phase 2B of the N51 Navan Inner Relief Road was opened to traffic. This route provides a direct link between the N3/M3 Kells Road and the N51 Athboy Road. N25 Road (Ireland)
The N25 road is a national primary road in Ireland, forming the route from Cork to Rosslare Europort via Waterford City. The road is part of the E30 European route and a short section is also part of the E01 European route. It forms part of the proposed Atlantic Corridor route. Route Up to 22 February 2012, the Cork South Ring Road was designated as part of the N25. However, on 23 February, this section of road was redesignated as N40 and hence from this date, the N25 now commences at the Dunkettle Interchange. From the Dunkettle Interchange the N25 commences east as the ''East Cork Parkway'' dual-carriageway, with interchanges for Fota Island and Cobh, and also Carrigtwohill. The M1 motorway () is a motorway in Ireland. It forms the large majority of the N1 national primary road connecting Dublin towards Belfast along the east of the island of Ireland. The route heads north via Swords, Drogheda and Dundalk to the Northern Irish border just south of Newry in County Armagh, where it joins the A1 road and further on, the M1 motorway in Northern Ireland. Kevin Boland (15 October 1917 – 23 September 2001) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as Leader of Aontacht Éireann from 1971 to 1976, Minister for Social Welfare from 1961 to 1966 and 1969 to 1970, Minister for Local Government from 1966 to 1970 and Minister for Defence from 1957 to 1961.
