True Tone Records (Australian Label)
True Tone Records was an Australian based record label. It was founded by Michael Crawley in 1985. Crawley, an English expatriate, was the A&R Director for Polygram Records before establishing the label. The label was financially backed by Polygram, who distributed their releases however Polygram gave Crawley 'carte blanche' to sign and develop new acts. History True Tone signed Gang Gajang and released the band's first single "Gimme Some Lovin'" in 1984, as well as their first two albums, ''Gang Gajang (album), Gang Gajang'' (1985) and ''Gang Again'' (1987). In 1985 the label signed The Go-Betweens but the band never recorded anything for True Tone and went on to sign with the UK label, Beggars Banquet Records. True Tone did however provide the Australian release of the Go-Between's fifth album, ''Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express'' (1986), as well as ''The Able Label Singles'' (1987). Peter Blakeley
Peter Blakeley is an Australian white soul/adult contemporary singer and songwriter. Blakeley was a lead singer of the Rockmelons in the mid-1980s. He launched a solo career in 1987 and had a massive hit single in Australia in 1989 with " Crying in the Chapel", which was not a remake of the 1950s song " Crying in the Chapel". In 1990, he won an ARIA award for Single of the Year with " Crying in the Chapel", the first single taken from his album '' Harry's Café De Wheels''. The song went platinum in 1990. The Celibate Rifles
The Celibate Rifles were an Australian punk rock band which formed in 1979 with a line-up that included mainstays Dave Morris on rhythm guitar and Kent Steedman on lead guitar; within a year they were joined by Damien Lovelock on lead vocals. They released their first album, ''Sideroxylon'', in April 1983 on the Hot Records label. The band has toured both America and Europe extensively, and released their ninth studio album, ''Beyond Respect'' on 19 July 2004. In 1985 the group's style was described as post-Radio Birdman sound which is "a combination of fast, guitar-driven, hard rock and power pop". Sukhdeep Singh Bhogal l better known by his stage name L-FRESH the Lion, is an Australian hip hop artist and producer. Based in South Western Sydney, Bhogal has released four studio albums as L-FRESH the Lion, highlighted by 2016's ARIA Award-nominated ''Become''. He has also received three nominations at the National Live Music Awards. Bhogal's stage name is derived from a backronym for FRESH—Forever Rising Exceeding Sudden Hardships—while the L and lion refer to the Sanskrit translation for his middle name, Singh, which is given to Sikh men. The ''Sun Herald'' is a U.S. newspaper based in Biloxi, Mississippi, that serves readers along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The paper's current executive editor and general manager is Blake Kaplan, and its headquarters is in the city of Gulfport. ''Lovetown'' is the third studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Stephen Cummings. The album was released in January 1988 and peaked at number 61 on the Australian Kent Music Report. Stephen Cummings
Stephen Donald Cummings (born 13 September 1954) is an Australian rock singer and songwriter. He was the lead singer of Melbourne-based rock band the Sports from 1976 to 1981, followed by a solo career which has met with critical acclaim but has had limited commercial success. He has written two novels, ''Wonderboy'' (1996) and ''Stay Away from Lightning Girl'' (1999), and a memoir, '' Will It Be Funny Tomorrow, Billy'' (2009). In 2014 a documentary film, ''Don't Throw Stones'', based on his memoir premiered as part of the Melbourne International Film Festival. The Saints (Australian Band)
The Saints were an Australian rock band formed in Brisbane, Queensland in 1973. Founded by singer-songwriter Chris Bailey, drummer Ivor Hay, and guitarist-songwriter Ed Kuepper, they originally employed fast tempos, raucous vocals and a "buzzsaw" guitar sound that helped initiate punk rock in Australia and identified them with the greater international movement. Unable to get gigs, they converted their share house into a venue where they could play. With their debut single " (I'm) Stranded", released in September 1976, they became the first punk band outside the US to release a record, ahead of the first UK punk releases from the Damned, the Sex Pistols and the Clash. They experienced UK chart success in 1977 with the song " This Perfect Day", which peaked at #34. Edmund Kuepper (born 20 December 1955) is a German-born Australian guitarist, Singing, vocalist and songwriter. He co-founded the punk band The Saints (Australian band), The Saints in 1973, the experimental post-punk group Laughing Clowns (active 1979–85) and the grunge-like The Aints! (1991–94, 2017–present). He has also recorded over a dozen albums as a solo artist using a variety of backing bands. His highest charting solo album, ''Honey Steel's Gold'', appeared in November 1991 and reached No. 28 on the ARIA Charts, ARIA Albums Chart.
