True Romance (Charli XCX Album)
''True Romance'' is the debut studio album by English singer Charli XCX. It was released on 12 April 2013 by Asylum and Atlantic Records. Originally scheduled for release in April 2012, the album's release was delayed for a full year and had been in the making since early 2010 when Charli met with producer Ariel Rechtshaid in Los Angeles. To promote the album's release, Charli embarked on a three-day UK promotional tour in April 2013. Background and recording At 14, Charli XCX persuaded her parents to grant her a loan to record her first album, ''14'', and, in early 2008, began posting songs from the album as well as numerous other demos on her official Myspace page. Charlotte Emma Aitchison (born 2 August 1992), known professionally as Charli XCX, is a British singer and songwriter. She began posting songs on Myspace in 2008 before entering the London rave scene. "You (Ha Ha Ha)" is a song by British singer Charli XCX taken from her major label debut studio album, ''True Romance'' (2013). It was released as the album's 4th single in February 2013, along with several remixes. A music video for the song was released on YouTube on 10 January 2013. Composition You (Ha Ha Ha) relies heavily on a sample of Gold Panda's single "You". The sample provides "psychedelic loops" to the track, that contains "maddening trance and haunted-house echoes" and "aural flourishes". The sound of the single has been described as a "combination of UK electro and saccharine vocals". It is set in the key of C Minor. Critical reception In its list of the best songs of 2013, Pitchfork ranked "You (Ha Ha Ha)" at number 61. Icona Pop ( ) are a Swedish synth-pop duo that formed in 2009, with electro house and indie pop music influences. Its two members, Aino Jawo (born 7 July 1986) and Caroline Hjelt (born 8 November 1987), grew up in Stockholm and created what the Swedish press has described as music which "you can both laugh and cry to at the same time".
