Troubles Of The Brain EP
''Troubles of the Brain'' is the first EP by the Veils, out on 24 January 2011 on Pitch Beast Records. Finn Andrews set up his own label to release the Veils' first EP after leaving Rough Trade after almost 9 years. It was recorded at Andrews' home studio in London, and produced by Andrews and Bernard Butler. The first single from the EP was "The Stars Came Out Once the Lights Went Out". The Veils
The Veils are an English/New Zealand indie rock band fronted by singer and songwriter Finn Andrews. History Early years, ''The Runaway Found'' (2001–2004) Finn Andrews was born in London but spent his teenage years at high school in Auckland, New Zealand. Largely disinterested in school, Finn was also playing in many bands (one of which met and played regularly in a folk club on Mt Victoria in Devonport, Auckland) and writing the songs that would later comprise The Veils debut album '' The Runaway Found''. When he was 16, a set of demos he sent to record companies created a stir and led to invitations for him to return to London and make a record. The Veils were signed almost immediately to Blanco y Negro, an indie/major hybrid imprint led by Rough Trade's boss Geoff Travis. On 19 August 2002 the band released a promo only single " Death & Co.", while a proper commercial single release came three months later, on 18 November, for "More Heat Than Light" followed by " ... Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge, shoegaze, and Britpop subgenres in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. Bernard Butler
Bernard Joseph Butler (born 1 May 1970) is an English musician, songwriter and record producer. He is best known as the first guitarist with Suede, until his departure in 1994. Finn Andrews
Finn Andrews (born 24 August 1983) is a British/New Zealand musician. He is a solo artist and lead singer and songwriter of London-based rock band The Veils. His father Barry Andrews is a current member of Shriekback, was a member of XTC, and also played with Iggy Pop, Robert Fripp and David Bowie. Finn was born in Kentish Town, London and grew up between his father in London and his mother, an English and Sociology professor in Auckland, New Zealand. He attended Takapuna Grammar School during his teens where he met The Veils bass player Sophia Burn, before leaving for London shortly after his 16th birthday to make The Veils debut album The Runaway Found. Sun Gangs
''Sun Gangs'' is the third album by The Veils, released on 6 April 2009 in both CD and LP formats. Finn Andrews has described it as "a very modern mixture of prayers, love letters and personal record keeping". ''Sun Gangs'' was produced by Graham Sutton, with the exception of the opening track "Sit Down by the Fire", produced by Bernard Butler. No official singles were released to promote the album though 1-track promos of "Three Sisters" and "The Letter" were sent out to radio stations in late February, 2009. Rough Trade Records
Rough Trade Records is an independent record label based in London, England. It was formed in 1976 by Geoff Travis who had opened a record store off Ladbroke Grove. Having successfully promoted and sold records by punk rock and early post-punk and indie pop bands such as the Normal and Desperate Bicycles, Travis began to manage acts and distribute bands such as Scritti Politti and began the label, which was informed by left-wing politics and structured as a co-operative. Soon after, Rough Trade also set up a distribution arm that serviced independent retail outlets across Britain, a network that became known as the Cartel. In 1983, Rough Trade signed the Smiths. Interest and investment of major labels in the UK indie scene in the late 1980s, as well as overtrading on behalf of Rough Trade's distribution wing, led to cash flow problems, and eventually to bankruptcy, forcing the label into receivership.
