Tripura () is a States and union territories of India, state in northeastern India. Tripura (mythology)
In Hindu mythology, Tripura were three cities constructed by the great Asura architect Mayasura. They were great cities of prosperity, power and dominance over the world, but due to their impious nature, Maya's cities were destroyed by god Tripurantaka or Tripurari, an aspect of Shiva. The three cities were made of gold, silver and iron and were located on the heaven, earth and underworld planes respectively. The term ''Tripura'' means "three cities" or "three fortresses". Tripura Kingdom
The Twipra Kingdom (), anglicized as Tipperah, was one of the largest historical kingdoms of the Tripuri people in Northeast India. Legend A list of legendary Tripuri kings is given in the Rajmala chronicle, a 15th-century chronicle in Bengali written by the court pandits of Dharma Manikya I (r. 1431). The chronicle traces the king's ancestry to the mythological Lunar Dynasty. Druhyu, the son of Yayati, became king of the land of Kirata and constructed a city named Trivega on the bank of Kapila river. His kingdom was bounded by the river Tairang on the north, Acaranga on the south, Mekhali on the east, Koch and Vanga on the west. Tripura (princely State)
Tripura State, also known as Hill Tipperah, was a princely state in India during the period of the British Raj and for some two years after the departure of the British. Its rulers belonged to the Manikya dynasty and until August 1947 the state was in a subsidiary alliance, from which it was released by the Indian Independence Act 1947. The state Instrument of Accession, acceded to the newly independent Dominion of India, Indian Union on 13 August 1947, and subsequently Tripura Merger Agreement, merged into the Indian Union in October 1949. The princely state was located in the present-day Indian state of Tripura. The state included one town, Agartala, as well as a total of 1,463 villages. Rayasam Venkata Tripurantakeswara Rao (2 September 1928 – 24 May 2013), popularly known as Tripura, was an Indian Telugu short story writer of the 1960s and 1970s. He was born on 2 September 1928 in Purushottampur Tehsil of Ganjam District of Orissa state. His father was a surgeon and worked in Government Hospital there. Tripura had his initial schooling at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and completed his M.A. (English) from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 1953. He did not complete his doctoral thesis on Graham Greene. Tripura initially worked at various places like Burma, Madanapalli, Visakhapatnam, and Jajpur, before settling down in 1960 at Tripura University, Agartala, in the North Eastern State of Tripura, India.
