Triathlon At The 2014 Commonwealth Games
The Triathlon competitions at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, in Glasgow, were held in Strathclyde Country Park. The men's and women's individual events were held on Thursday 24 July and women's triathlon was the first medal event of the Games. Mixed team relay was held on Saturday 26 July for the first time ever in major multi-sport Games. Strathclyde Country Park
Strathclyde Country Park is a country park located on the outskirts of Motherwell in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, named after the former Strathclyde region of Scotland. It is often commonly referred to as Strathclyde, or simply Strathy. Description The park covers some , centred on the artificial Strathclyde Loch. It is located next to the River Clyde between Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Hamilton and Motherwell. Strathclyde Park forms what used to be known as the Low Parks of the now demolished Hamilton Palace and still includes buildings associated with the palace. When the loch was created in the early 1970s it involved the flooding of the old mining village of Bothwellhaugh. Vicky Holland
Vicky Holland (born 12 January 1986) is a British former triathlete who was part of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic team. Holland was the 2018 World Triathlon champion, the fourth British woman to win the title. She was also the first female triathlete to win an Olympic medal for Great Britain, a bronze in 2016, holding off housemate, compatriot and fellow world champion Non Stanford. A long-time fixture of the English and British mixed relay teams, she is also a 2-time World Mixed Team Champion, and a Commonwealth Games mixed relay champion. Triathlon At The Commonwealth Games
Triathlon is one of the sports at the quadrennial Commonwealth Games competition. It was first granted Commonwealth Games sport status in 2002, and has been held in each edition since, except in Delhi 2010 Games due to the lack of suitable venue for the swimming leg in Delhi. Until 2022, it was a core sport which had to be included in each competition's sporting programme. Para-triathlon was first included as an optional sport in the Gold Coast 2018 games. Ryan Bailie
Ryan Bailie (born 15 July 1990) is an Australian triathlete. He won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the mixed relay event. Early life Bailie was born in South Africa before moving to Bunbury, Western Australia, where he lived until age 18. His sister Ashlee is also a triathlete. Career Bailie has competed in the ITU World Triathlon Series since 2012, with several top ten finishes, including a best finish of 5th in Auckland in 2014. Gillian Sanders (born 15 October 1981) is a South African triathlete. She grew up in Pietermaritzburg, and took up triathlon in her youth under the influence of her father and older sister, who both competed in the sport. After competing internationally in age group and junior competition Sanders put her triathlon career on hold whilst studying law at Stellenbosch University, where she competed as a 1500m runner.
