Trial By Jury (film)
''Trial by Jury'' is a 1994 American legal thriller film directed by Heywood Gould and starring Joanne Whalley-Kilmer, Gabriel Byrne, Armand Assante and William Hurt. Plot Crime boss Rusty Pirone is about to stand trial again and Daniel Graham of the district attorney's office is determined this time to put him behind bars. Pirone sends one of his henchmen, a burned-out former corrupt cop named Tommy Vesey, to find a way to get him off the charges. Vesey realizes that a hung jury will lead to an acquittal and he investigates all of the jurors with a view to blackmailing them. Unsuccessful in his blackmail investigation, he switches his attention to finding a juror that can be forced to work with him. He identifies single mother Valerie Alston, who he feels could make a difference in the jury room, but can also follow orders. Heywood Gould
Heywood Gould is an American screenwriter, journalist, novelist and film director. He wrote the screenplays for the films '' Rolling Thunder'', '' The Boys from Brazil'', '' Fort Apache, The Bronx'', ''Streets of Gold'', ''Cocktail'', and wrote and directed the films '' One Good Cop'', ''Trial by Jury'', ''Mistrial'' and '' Double Bang''. Career ''Rolling Thunder'' On the strength of his spec screenplay '' Fort Apache, The Bronx'' (1981), Gould was enlisted by star William Devane to rewrite Paul Schrader's '' Rolling Thunder'' script. Gould added pop-psych monologues for Devane's character, a former POW, that reflected an almost clinical understanding of his own trauma. Devane opted instead for a terse, contained performance in the mold of Steve McQueen, forgoing Gould's ornate characterization. Paul Soles
Paul Robert Soles (August 11, 1930 – May 26, 2021) was a Canadian character actor, voice artist and television personality. He voiced the title character in ''Spider-Man'' (1967), and portrayed Hermey in the 1964 television special ''Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer''; Soles was one of the last surviving participants of the special's voice cast. Soles first screen appearance was on CFPL in 1953, and he continued to perform over 60 years later, performing as of 2016 in the comedy web series '' My 90-Year-Old Roommate'' on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's online comedy channel, CBC Comedy. Kay Hawtrey
Katharine Mary Craven Clark ( Hawtrey, November 8, 1926 – June 11, 2021) was a Canadian actress. Hawtrey was born on November 8, 1926 and educated at Toronto's Trinity College. She began her career at Hart House Theatre and then went to England for a year's engagement with the Embassy Theatre in London. On her return, Hawtrey appeared in television plays for the CBC, before marrying English actor John Clark in 1956. They moved to New York City in 1959, where they had a son in 1963, naming him Jonathan Hawtrey Clark. They divorced in 1967 and she returned to Toronto with their son, appearing in many film and television productions. She is best remembered for her appearance in the 1980 film ''Funeral Home''.
