"Treat 'Em Right" is a 1991 song by rapper Chubb Rock. The song samples "There Was a Time" by Dee Felice Trio and "Love Thang" by First Choice. The song was originally released on the '' Treat 'Em Right'' EP released in late 1990, which charted at No. 73 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and No. 22 on the R&B Albums. The song was then included on the Chubb Rock album The One and then was released as the album's lead single, becoming a transatlantic hit, charting at No. 67 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 95 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, No. 33 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, No. 32 on the Dance Music/Club Play Singles, No. 11 on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales and No. 1 on the Hot Rap Singles, where it spent three weeks at the top of the chart in March 1991 and was the first of four No. 1s on that chart, ending up at the top of the end-of-year Hot Rap Singles. Chubb Rock
Richard Anthony Simpson (born May 28, 1968), also known as Chubb Rock, is a Jamaican-American rapper who released several successful hip hop albums in the late 1980s and early 1990s. A National Merit Scholar, Chubb Rock dropped out of Brown University to pursue his musical career. 1990s and earlier Discovered and produced by his first cousin DJ-Producer Howie Tee, Chubb Rock first appeared on the national scene with his 1988 self-titled debut ''Chubb Rock'' and 1989's '' And the Winner is...'' The latter produced the minor hit "Ya Bad Chubbs" which garnered air play on ''Yo! MTV Raps'' during that time. Joel Carver Whitburn (November 29, 1939 – June 14, 2022) was an American author and music historian, responsible for setting up the Record Research, Inc. series of books on record chart placings. Illegal Art
Illegal Art is a sampling record label that was started in 1998. The label gained immediate notoriety from legal threats surrounding '' Deconstructing Beck'', a compilation made exclusively from sampling Beck's music. This was followed by two other theme-based compilations, ''Extracted Celluloid'' and ''Commercial Ad Hoc''. All three were co-released with Negativland's Seeland Records label and sponsored by RTMark. After these theme-based compilations, Illegal Art focused on artist releases. One of the most popular artists on the label is Girl Talk (Gregg Gillis), who in 2006 released his third album, '' Night Ripper'', to critical acclaim on the label, earning a ''Wired'' magazine Rave Award a year later. A mashup (also mesh, mash up, mash-up, blend, bastard pop or bootleg) is a creative work, usually a song, created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, typically by superimposing the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another and changing the tempo and key where necessary.
