Transport in Qatar is primarily centered around the Doha Metropolitan Area (DMA), where approximately 2 million people reside and work. Lusail LRT
Lusail Tram (), is a light rail network serving the city of Lusail, Qatar. Background The Lusail Tram was initially aimed at enhancing connectivity between key areas during the 2022 World Cup, but is now rapidly becoming a part of the city's transportation network. The tram network consists of two lines and with another two being planned. The first preview of its first phase was on 1 January 2022, with the preview of the Orange Line, which had six original underground air-conditioned stations with future expansions planned to be gradually opened to the public. The light rail network will feature of underground tracks and of surface and elevated tracks, including a section between two high-rise buildings. Al Majd Road
Al Majd Road (formerly known as the Orbital Highway) is the longest highway in Qatar, running at a length of from south-to-north. It begins in Mesaieed in Al Wakrah Municipality and extends north towards Ras Laffan on the coast in Al Khor Municipality. Constructed by Ashghal (the Public Works Authority), the road features 7 lanes in both directions, which altogether can accommodate roughly 16,000 vehicles an hour. There are 21 main interchanges, linking the highway with other important roads such as G-Ring Road, Salwa Road, Dukhan Highway, and Al Shamal Road. Ashghal claims that, compared to the alternative route running through Doha proper, Al Majd Road reduces travel time by up to 50% from its beginning to end. Abu Samra
Abu Samra () is a settlement in Qatar, located in the municipalities of Qatar, municipality of Al Rayyan (90 km from Doha). It used to be part of the Jariyan al Batnah municipality before the municipality was incorporated into Al Rayyan. Notable features of the area are a border post separating the southern part of the municipality from Saudi Arabia, and a well. It was previously Qatar's only land Qatar–Saudi Arabia border, border crossing to Saudi Arabia, until its closure in June 2017 over the Qatar diplomatic crisis. The border was opened again when the blockade ended in 2021. Etymology The settlement derived its name from a local Vachellia tortilis, Samr tree. Al Khor
Al Khor (; also spelled ''Al Khawr''), officially Al Khor and Al Thakhira, is a Municipalities of Qatar, municipality in northeastern Qatar. Al Khor (city), Al Khor City, the municipal seat, is located on the northeast coast of Qatar, around from the capital, Doha and is considered to be one of Qatar's the major cities. Dukhan () is a city in the western municipality of Al-Shahaniya, Qatar. It is approximately west of the capital, Doha. Dukhan is administered by Qatar's state oil agency QatarEnergy and is the site of the first oil discovery in Qatar. It was previously a part of Al Rayyan municipality. Mesaieed (, also transliterated as ''Umm Sa'id'') is an industrial city in Al Wakrah Municipality south of the Qatari capital Doha. It was one of the most important cities in Qatar during the 20th century, having gained recognition as a prime industrial zone and tanking center for petroleum received from Dukhan. Both Mesaieed and its industrial area are administered by a subdivision of QatarEnergy called "Mesaieed Industry City Management", which was established in 1996. Green Line (Doha Metro)
The Green Line, also known as the Education Line, is a rapid transit line of the Doha Metro in Qatar's capital city of Doha. Opened to the public on 10 December 2019, it runs east to west, beginning at Al Mansoura (Doha), Al Mansoura and terminating at the Al Riffa station on Dukhan Highway in Rawdat Al Jahhaniya. The line covers a total distance of . Part of the line runs underground, part at grade (ground level) and part of it is elevated on viaducts.
