Trams In Spain
Trams in Spain go back to an animal-drawn Madrid tramway network, which opened in 1871. Steam tramway traction started in Spain in 1879, and electric trams first operated in 1899. Spanish tramway networks were dismantled in the 1960s and 1970s, but have gradually been reintroduced since 1994. At present, there are plans to add 13 new Spanish tram networks to the nine currently operating. History The history of tramways in Spain began with animal-drawn trams in the nineteenth century, in Madrid (1871), Barcelona and Bilbao (1872), Valencia, Spain, Valencia (1876), Valladolid (1881), Zaragoza (1885), Sevilla (1887) and Palma de Mallorca (1891). The tranvía was a streetcar system that served Manila and its surrounding cities during the early years of the 20th century. The Vitoria-Gasteiz tram ( eu, Gasteizko tranbia, es, Tranvía de Vitoria) is a tram system in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country, Spain. Murcia Tram
The Murcia tram is a tram/ light rail system operational in the Spanish city of Murcia. The system opened in 2011 and links the city centre with the northern suburbs. Background In April 2007 a demonstration line was opened, built by the Tranvimur joint venture of Acciona and Grupo Cívica, along Avenida Juan Carlos I. Tenerife Tram ( es, Tranvía de Tenerife) is a light rail or tram service located on the island of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands in Spain. MetroCentro (Seville)
MetroCentro is a tram system serving the centre of the city Seville, in Andalusia, Spain. It began operating in October 2007. The tram is operated by TUSSAM (Transportes Urbanos de Sevilla, Sociedad Anónima Municipal), which is a municipally owned corporation tasked with the operation of the bus and tram system of Seville. The Madrid city of Parla has a circular tram line which provides transportation within the city as well as to the rest of the metropolitan area.
