Trams In Spain
Trams in Spain go back to an animal-drawn Madrid tramway network, which opened in 1871. Steam tramway traction started in Spain in 1879, and electric trams first operated in 1899. Spanish tramway networks were dismantled in the 1960s and 1970s, but have gradually been reintroduced since 1994. At present, there are plans to add 13 new Spanish tram networks to the nine currently operating. History The history of tramways in Spain began with animal-drawn trams in the nineteenth century, in Madrid (1871), Barcelona and Bilbao (1872), Valencia, Spain, Valencia (1876), Valladolid (1881), Zaragoza (1885), Sevilla (1887) and Palma de Mallorca (1891). The tranvía was a streetcar system that served Manila and its surrounding cities during the early years of the 20th century. The Zaragoza Tram ( es, Tranvía de Zaragoza) is a tram system in the Spanish city of Zaragoza, capital of the autonomous community of Aragon. It has one line called Line 1 and it was expected to be expanded with a second and third line but the project was cancelled and plans to recover it are now being made. Vitoria-Gasteiz Tram
The Vitoria-Gasteiz tram ( eu, Gasteizko tranbia, es, Tranvía de Vitoria) is a tram system in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country, Spain. It is operated by Euskotren under the brand Euskotren Tranbia (which also manages the tram system in Bilbao). Inaugurated on 23 December 2008, it comprises two lines totaling . System Station design The whole line has twenty-three stations (as of May 2021). All tram stops have low platforms, are un-staffed and have automated ticket machines for ticket sales. Once bought, the ticket must be validated on the validation machine located next to the ticket machine. Murcia Tram
The Murcia tram is a tram/ light rail system operational in the Spanish city of Murcia. The system opened in 2011 and links the city centre with the northern suburbs. Background In April 2007 a demonstration line was opened, built by the Tranvimur joint venture of Acciona and Grupo Cívica, along Avenida Juan Carlos I. The trail was deemed successful in August 2008 and the rest of the system was built after a tendering process, which awarded a contract to Sociedad Concesionaria Tranvía de Murcia, a consortium of the companies COMSA EMTE Concesiones and FCC. The contract provided for the construction of the current system and operation of the system for a duration of 40 years at a price of 264 million Euros. The current system opened in 2011. Tenerife Tram ( es, Tranvía de Tenerife) is a light rail or tram service located on the island of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands in Spain. It is operated by Metropolitano de Tenerife, a limited company now 100% owned by Cabildo de Tenerife. Service started on 2 June 2007 over a route that linked the Intercambiador in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with Avenida de la Trinidad in La Laguna. MetroCentro (Seville)
MetroCentro is a tram system serving the centre of the city Seville, in Andalusia, Spain. It began operating in October 2007. The tram is operated by TUSSAM (Transportes Urbanos de Sevilla, Sociedad Anónima Municipal), which is a municipally owned corporation tasked with the operation of the bus and tram system of Seville. The tram has connections with the Seville Metro and Cercanías Sevilla (commuter rail). Parla Tram
The Madrid city of Parla has a circular tram line which provides transportation within the city as well as to the rest of the metropolitan area. This network is standard gauge which facilitates compatibility and vehicle interchangeability with other lines built or planned in the Community of Madrid. The Metro Ligero (; "Light Metro") is a light rail system in Madrid, Spain. It has three lines, totaling , and 37 stations. Torre del Mar is a locality on the southern coast of Spain, part of the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, Axarquía, located in the province of Málaga.
