Tracy is a city in Lyon County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,076 based on the 2020 census. U.S. Route 14 serves as a main arterial route in the community. History Tracy was platted in 1875. It was named for John F. Tracy, a railroad official. A post office called Tracy has been in operation since 1877. The city was incorporated in 1893. On June 13, 1968, Tracy was hit by an F5 tornado which killed nine people and injured 150. Until the 1960s, Tracy was a highly active railroad town on the Chicago & Northwestern Railway as a concentration point for numerous branch lines in the area serving heavy agriculture. Today, Tracy holds an annual summer festival called "Boxcar Days," which takes place Labor Day weekend as a sign of the railroad's influence on the town. The Tracy Thermal Generating Station is a retired 660-megawatt heavy fuel oil-fueled thermal power station built from 1962 by the Shawinigan Water & Power Company and completed by Hydro-Québec after the History of Hydro-Québec#1963: Second stage of state control, buyout of all private electric utilities by the government of Quebec in 1963. "Tracie" is a song by English jazz-funk band Level 42, written by Gary Husband and Mark King, and recounts King's times with his childhood sweetheart, Tracie Wilson. It appeared on the band's 1988 album '' Staring at the Sun'', and features keyboardist Mike Lindup playing harmonica. It was remixed, and a new lead vocal recorded, for issue as a single in early 1989, peaking at number 25 in the UK, and at number 14 in the Netherlands.
