Tour De Pakistan
The Tour de Pakistan is a bicycle racing, bicycle race held in Pakistan roughly every two years over more than . It is modelled after the Tour de France. The race begins in Karachi and ends in Peshawar. It is the longest cycling race in Asia. The event used to be 22 stages long and 2200 kilometres in length, but in 2007 it was reduced to 1648 kilometres and 11 stages. History The Pakistan Cycling Federation wanted to promote road cycle racing, as most of its focus had been on track cycling. Thus the formation of the Tour de Pakistan, based on the Tour de France, it would give the opportunity to test Pakistani cyclists. The gruelling event became one of the longest and toughest in Asia which has seen international teams compete alongside a Pakistani teams. The current prize money is $10,000 which is shared out between the top six. Sabir Ali (19 April 1955 – 22 January 2023) was an Indian decathlete. He was an Arjuna award winner (1981). Born in Haryana, Ali won 10 gold medals in the decathlon, including at the 1981 Asian Athletics Championships held at Tokyo, Japan. He won two silver medals in South Asian Athletics meet held at Kathmandu & Dhaka. He was declared the best sportsman of India in the year 1981 by Indian Railways and Journalist Association of India. Robin Neil Reid (born 16 December 1975 in Invercargill) is a former road racing cyclist from Blenheim, New Zealand who was a New Zealand time trial champion and Olympian. He won the Tour de Pakistan race in 2007. There he met the German-born former professional female cyclist Britta Martin, who won the female sections of the event and has been together with her ever since. End of 2007 they moved in together in Nelson, New Zealand. Britta Martin competes since 2008 as a professional triathlete mainly at the Ironman distance.
