Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team Of The Week
The AutoNation National Team of the Week is a weekly award given by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) to an American College Football team to honor that team's win and performance. Beginning in 2002, the members of the FWAA began naming a National Team of the Week. In 2004, the award first started being sponsored by the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. In 2014, Big Game replaced Tostitos Fiesta Bowl as the presenting sponsor for the National Team of the Week. In 2015, AutoNation became the presenting sponsor. Members of the FWAA board of directors and All-America committee decide the weekly honor. Each Monday during the college football regular season at 4pm ET, the FWAA will name the AutoNation National Team of the Week. The very first recipient of the award was Duke, following their 23-16 victory over East Carolina to open the 2002 season, which ended the Blue Devils' 23-game losing streak. Football Writers Association Of America
The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) is an organization of college football media members in the United States founded in 1941. It is composed of approximately 1,200 professional sports writers from both print and Internet media outlets. The membership includes journalists, broadcasters and publicists, as well as key executives in all the areas that involve the game. The FWAA works to govern areas that include game day operations, and strives for better working conditions for sports writers in college football press boxes, and deals with access issues to college athletes and coaches. The FWAA also sponsors scholarships for aspiring writers and an annual writing contest. The FWAA is one of the organizations whose College Football All-America Team is recognized by the NCAA. Navy Midshipmen Football
The Navy Midshipmen football team represents the United States Naval Academy in NCAA Division I FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) college football. The Naval Academy completed its final season as an FBS independent school (not in a conference) in 2014, and became a single-sport member of the American Athletic Conference beginning in the 2015 season. The team is currently coached by Brian Newberry, who was promoted in 2022, following his stint as the Midshipmen defensive coordinator. Navy has 19 players and three coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame and won the college football national championship in 1926 according to the Boand and Houlgate poll systems.
